Pretty sick, can't read the spec yet. Does it allow for any metadata sent to the recipient as well, or does it simply result in a standard bolt11 invoice?

Yes it accepts payer_data for arbitrary json such that it can be used for things like product SKUs, account email addresses, etc that your node can pipe out with a webhook to an external system upon payment
