There sure is a 'we' and the sooner we all realize it, we can focus on the real enemy
People that tries to compare private digital cash like monero with the Epstein Classes new money hoaxes, Facebook stocks or BTC. Are light years behind ever understanding what's at stake before it's too late.
Monero is the direct opposite of CBDC's and digital surveillance. So, you are so absolutely right, those who are still left stuck in BTC is in the boat with my grandmother and her BTC ETF's. There is no sticking with that system, that's actually what we are running from.
We aren’t moving in the same direction and money is a winner take all game
Keep running then 🤣
Wow, really? Yea, this proves we are not even almost on the same path. And yours I would never , ever walk. Money is winner take all? You got a future at the Fed.
Until you can say 'fuck money', you will never know freedom nor will you ever understand anything have to say. Im truly fucking shocked you would say some stupid shit like this. My journey started before you were even born. Dont fucking test me
Historically this has been the case. It’s possible that changes but I don’t see it. Trade is more efficient when everyone uses the same currency. And monero can’t scale so it can’t ever be adopted in a meaningful way. Even if it’s as great as people claim it to be, there’s not enough space on the blockchain for significant adoption.
So people are most likely going to gravitate to the best money that is most commonly used. Even though dollars are shit, people use it more than any other currency because it’s so common all over the world. It’s very convenient to go to Argentina and be able to find merchants who accept dollars. I can see a world where merchants are accepting bitcoin all over the world. I can’t see that with monero because it can’t meet that large of a demand. Can’t see that with gold because it’s heavy and you cant travel with it in large quantities. Gold is also a pain in the ass to verify.
What’s stupid about what I said? It’s a pretty common position among Austrian economists
This last I can't agree with.
Multiple, rival currencies are a normal thing in much of the world.
Its only where one State has a chokehold over the economy that monopoly reigns.
Those are fiat currencies which are forced on people by the state. Because gold failed. Gold was difficult to transport and verify so they used dollars redeemable in gold. Then they took the gold and forced people to use dollars.
If gold was easy to transport, fiat wouldn’t have worked. People wouldn’t have put their gold in banks. And everyone would be using gold as payment.
Streak-plates made gold easy to verify. ICP made it easier still.
The weight is no big deal in the quantities actually required for everyday transactions, the amounts are actually quite small.
Fiat is proof-of-violence, gold is proof-of-work.
When threat-of-violence (taxes) is more than a small share of the economy, Fiat wins over everything. As we see today.
Tell me how you do value exchange or decide what to spend how much resources on with no fungible value tokens to express the relative interest of all who have a stake. And do it from the kind of superior development that doesn't just assume everyone else is hopelessly stupid.
“fiat is proof of violence, gold is proof of work”
i like how concise this is.
Why did people put gold in banks if it wasn’t a problem to transact in it?
Security, my friend.
Just like today, where you don't want the world to think there's a years earnings sitting in your wall-safe. Or in your brain-wallet.
How is holding $10k worth of dollars at home more secure than holding $10k worth of gold at home?
It isn't.
The middleclass family keeping its savings buried under the fireplace / at the bottom of the garden was a meme because it was true
Okay so why are you saying that people put gold in banks for security when there is a meme that people didn’t trust banks and hid their money for themselves?
It doesn’t make sense. What makes more sense is that transacting in dollars just works better. It’s lighter to carry, easier to measure, and simpler to verify.
Bro, the people who deposited their gold in bank vaults weren't the middle classes.
Paper fiat was not simpler, easier to verify, or easier to store/transport than gold or silver.
So much so that for millenia most people refused it.
States wanting to issue fiat had to make do with minting debased / plated precious metal coins. Partly-fiat and partly-metal.
Britain's currency is still called the "Pound" (of silver, once).
"Dollar" is an anglicisation of the Dutch "thaler", itself from Arabic "Dinar". A very specific gold weight coin.
So whose gold did they steal?
They refused it because it’s paper lol not because it’s easier to verify
Everybodys', and often.
Jewish goldsmiths were the first bank-vault-providers, and they soon had a very unsavoury reputation for stealing and ponzi-scamming ("fractional reserve").
So they started offering a return instead of charging storage fees. Which worked well and brought in lots of whales.
Until a banker decided to exit-scam, or until some whale got nervous and asked to see his gold.
Then "Government! Do something!".
How do you plan on enforcing a single currency on everyone? I wont use bitcoin. I will use monero. Where we go from there? And this applies to the utter delusion of a bitcoin standard. How do you make people use it that dont want to? The state and their guns? Or just a unicorns and fairies?
What and How I value anything has nothing to do with how you do.
I do not believe in forcing anything on anyone. My belief is that people follow incentives and will use Bitcoin when it provides benefit to them. Just like you occasionally use dollars to pay for food, rent, etc
