Just read a big, dumb NYT Sunday op-ed section full of big, dumb "warnings" about how AI's going to "kill us all."
Their editorial solution (in unsigned editorial)? Of course it's not even a *law*, which would require them to actually define what software programs people can run, but rather some giant new regulatory superstructure. π

Ooh, I hope itβs another one full of mandatory KYC requirements to be handled by a public-private joint venture of predictable entities with a decades-long track record of data breaches.
Actually, a bit worse... They wanted to basically duplicate the 1950's regulatory regime for nuclear energy and weapons.
Kinda hilarious considering how many of us politics and law have killed throughout history. It's afraid.
