In the stillness of night it came, a quiet spark, a steady flame— Block 75, at last it stands, born of three years’ patient hands. More than numbers on a chain, a milestone reached through care and strain. Each block reminds, each epoch shows, how strength in networks truly grows. Low in cost, yet rich in drive, a labor kept, a flame alive. With faith in code, with trust in time, we carry forth this quiet climb. For all who’ve joined us, brief or long, your presence makes the mission strong. But whether few or many stay, we’ll seek the next block, day by day. — Smitty for Dyno Pool

On the way to work this morning I was thinking of the phrase -- "Trust but verify" and how this is really the essence of "science". -- Science begins with a hypothesis, but it earns its authority through testing, verification, and collective scrutiny. We trust the process — but only because we verify the results. When someone flips this — starting with a “truth” and bending a theory to fit it — they’re not doing science. They’re constructing a narrative built on an ephemeral reality — one with no foundation, no integrity, and no claim to objectivity. You don’t need a degree or a lab coat to practice science. Science is, at its core, the verification of ideas. We could all benefit from understanding our personal biases — especially in a world that constantly reinforces them — and from practicing a little more science. Trust, but verify.

Dirty hands lately: • Got a Strfry Nostr relay up and running — fast, light, and humming along • Threw together two static sites (keeping it simple: no frameworks, just clean HTML/CSS) • Set up Phoenixd + LNURL on a VPS — self-custodial Lightning payments now live ⚡ (yet untested) • Fired up a Minetest server for my kid — mods and all, because why not • Still maintaining the Cardano stake pool, fully synced and on tip — always happy to mint a block 🧱 Always tinkering. Always learning. #nostr #diy #selfhosted #cardano #lightning #minetest #strfry #buildinpublic #DYNO #zapstrdotnet

Phoenix Wallet up and running as I migrate from Alby. Got phoenixd and phoenixd-lnurl humming along on the VPS too. I had to laugh — I just shoved 100,000 sats( currently $117) into two wallets just to open Lightning channels... Just to ⚡️ZAP⚡️ on Nostr! That’s sick — and I don’t mean Gen Z “rizzed up on main” sick. I mean Millennial -- dropped $100 on LN channels just to tip you crazy people LN pennies sick. #grownostr #zaps #lighteningnetwork

Today, I set up a #Phoenix wallet and took the Alby address down from my profile. I replaced with a self-hosted BIP-353 Lightning Address I configured on the zapstr.net domain. This address is resolved via a DNS TXT record that contains a BOLT-12 offer. Zaps ⚡ should, in theory and if the client supports Bip-353 addresses, should be routed to my Phoenix Wallet Lightning through the BOLT-12 settlement address. We shall see. Tomorrow I may try and set up phoenixd phoenixd-lnurl for an LNURL address.

I guess #getalby dropped the free wallet so what the best option now #asknostr? I tried building a lightening node once. The remote liquidity is what killed my ambition.. needing to bolster connections with multiple nodes and exchanges. Anyway, what's the new #getalby here? I need to find a new lightening wallet.

Checking back in after a long hiatus .... with an observation/question: Out of all the interfaces, Google Gemini is by far the most frustrating to use. God I could just pull my hair out everytime I try and use it. --- Perplexity has become my go-to for up-to-date info and newer applications. ChatGPT still wins when I need help crafting flowery text or working through older scripting tasks. What about you, #asknostr? What’s your favorite AI tool or chatbot? Have you found different ones work better for different tasks too?

Checking back in .... I found #Lemmy and am exploring it as a platform .... It is a Reddit alt and seems to have a small group of active followers disenfranchised with Reddit. Somewhat similar to the folks here disenfranchised with Twitter. I found it while reading some background on #SimpleX, a platform I found through #Nostr, but one which I have embraced and use ...

OMG my account is locked and all my cryptos have been stolen and erased ... How Tragically Lost My Life Savings in Crypto And Why It's Everyone Else's Fault Recently, made the sound financial decision to invest my entire life savings into crypto, and what happened next will shock you it was everyone's fault but mine that lost it all. It all started when got my cold wallet, fresh out of the box. There was this piece of paper inside with some random words on it. figured it was just a packing list or something, but then this very professional guy from CoinBrass called and asked for those exact words. How was supposed to know they were my seed phrase? thought he was helping me! Later, I double-checked - nowhere in the instructions did it say, "Don't give your seed phrase to friendly strangers on the phone." That's on them, not me. Fast forward a week, and I'm on a boat I mean, who doesn't bring their cold wallet on vacation, right? had it in my pocket because, you know, secure storage. Anyway, jumped into the ocean for a quick swim, completely forgetting my crypto fortune was literaly attached to me. When I got back into the boat, my wallet was gone, as if the entire blockchain was washed away by the tide. Completely unfair, if you ask me. It didn't stop there. A while later, I was driving with my cold wallet carefully balanced on the dashboard (like you do), when it somehow flew out the window and landed on a newly-paved freeway. As luck would have it, a vibratory roller was right there, flattening it into oblivion. I tried to retrieve it, but apparently, interrupting road construction isn't "legal" and now can't even look at an asphalt roller without tearing up. But the true heartbreak? The tattoo. I had my seed phrase permanently inked on my leg a foolproof method to secure my crypto, right? Well, apparently two-toothed tattoo artists aren't as discreet as thought, and now someone (or, let's be real, the entire dark web) must've copied it while was passed out from the pain. Betrayed. Again. I've tried everything to reclaim my fortune. I even changed my name to Stantoshi Nokamoto to sue people who claim didn't write the original proof-of-work paper while on a pineapple pizza binge back when worked at the N(Not)SA. They laughed, but know the truth. So, in conclusion, it's clear that the system is rigged, the world is unfair, and absolutely none of this is my fault. I just wanted to be rich with no effort, and now look at me a victim of circumstance, bad luck, and asphalt rollers. Let this be a lesson to all of you: always blame everyone else, especially when it comes to your financial decisions. #grownostr
