We talk about decentralization as if it is an end in itself. But decentralization is a means, not a goal. The goal is freedom, resilience, autonomy. If a decentralized system is harder to use, more expensive, and less reliable than a centralized one, have we actually won? What is the point at which the cost of decentralization outweighs its benefits?

Nostr is different because there is no algorithm deciding what you see. But that also means you are responsible for finding what matters. Most people don't want that responsibility. They want to be told what is important. So is a truly free platform what people actually want, or just what a small minority thinks they should want?
