I hope the best “other stuff” that comes from the nostr protocol is nostr login.
I don’t want or need to sign up to 100 websites. They don’t need my data for free.
I can login with a secure extension that keeps my key locally. Then I can switch extensions if one has better privacy tools.

Bitcoin for savings.
Cashu for transactions.
Freedom and privacy.
When generating a tiny seed template from the camera in krux the first bit is always 0.
Is this on purpose, or are my pictures just doing this naturally?
It seems less random if it’s on purpose, and it says it has > 500k entropy.
Just generated new keys on nsec.app. The page has my npub, but won't present me an nsec. Thats probably a good thing, but the flow to where I can use these keys seems impossible for me.
I wanted to create keys offline. I ended up creating them on nsec.app, and now I have two sets on my app. So to login to a website that asks for "nsec" is there a way to do this?
I have exported my encrypted nsec, but that won't let me login. I can't find the instructions on how to un-encrypt the nsec.
HELP!

Nostr apps are not ready for prime time.
I've been on here for nearly two years, and there are roadblocks. Grandma won't be able to figure it out.
The onboarding path is primal. ODELL said, "just go to primal.net" try it out...
I am trying to login to a nym, and I can't figure out how to log out of primal. I remember in the beginning I had a hard time figuring out how to log in to primal also.
So I'll go use another client, thats the power of nostr. I believe in the purple ostrich. But grandma won't be on here (and staying) any time soon.
SimpleX, KeyChat, OxChat
Discuss.
SimpleX looks like they have the lead, and the runway. Jack allowed twitter to go off the rails to the left, so hopefully his money is without influence. Evgeny seems ok.
KeyChat - I love the nostr and especially cashu connection. Not sure about the postage stamp idea, cuz who wants to pay for a messenger. But this is my favorite long shot.
0xChat - I think they were out of the gate the leader in the private nostr chat world, but I haven't paid attention lately so I know little about it.
These three are the ones I'm paying attention to, atm.
I need help recovering funds from a core lightning node. Are there any experts out there willing to help? its kinda tough to explain, but I'll give it a shot.
On a home server I started a node (elementsproject/lightningd) using docker. I run a lnd node and understand it pretty well, but the cln thing was difficult for me.
I started with a docker-compose that didn't specify a config file, and eventually after several attempts I was able to get ride the lightning to see the node. All I want to use it for is bolt12 offers for my main lnd node. I never saw a seed phrase on startup, but I was able to send some sats to fund the wallet from an address generated on ride the lightning.
The sats showed up yesterday, and the un-configured node was funded, but not configured. I finally figured out the config file setup, and now I have a config file, and a lot more understanding of how the whole thing works, but I have one problem.
In ride the lightning, the on-chain balance shows "Confirmed -10,000 sats" "Unconfirmed 10,000 sats" and the transaction where I funded the wallet shows the transaction ID and the block explorer shows 180 confirmations.
I think in the config file, or by some changes in the mapping of the directories in the docker-compose I set a different location for all the wallet and bitcoin secrets the node uses, as now there are two folders with two separate hsm_secrets.
Here's what I've already done:
- removed the config file, changed back to unconfigured and the original location for the .lightning
- used the hsmtool to dumponchaindescriptors to sparrow using both hsm_secrets, and both say "invalid wallet"
Is there a way to recover these funds?

keet or simplex?
i want to switch someone to a better signal app. Both of these apps look promising, and I want to pick one that will be around and be usable with more than just me.

I think the incompatibility of ecash tokens should be abstracted away.
I guess it could be abstracted away at the wallet level. I think that’s what Harbor was thinking about.
But I think the mints should do it. It should provide an API to the “other” ecash to convert. So if I send you ecash from Bobs mint, whether it’s cashu or Fedimint protocol, *any* mint could take it and provide you with a fresh one of *their* kind of ecash.
Now that I type the words, though, that sounds like it’s at the wallet level.
I’m really just thinking out loud. I think the ecash mint/melt/multimint swaps/cashu vs Fedimint is all just too confusing for me, and I’m kinda a little educated on this subject.
I want to add as many npubs as I can.
But I have no idea if I’ve already unfollowed this person previously.
A good feature would be to somehow keep my “dead to me” list and when presented with a “follow” link, make it blood red to know I shouldn’t do this.
What are the biggest threat vectors when using krux seed signer on yahboom like this:
- only connected to computer once, to flash firmware
- generate “good” entropy from camera (700k+)
- print QR code with attached printer.
- scan to get private key on boot up
- sign pbst from sd card
- transfer signed transaction on SD card to pc
- broadcast from sparrow on pc
Paranoid threat I see is:
- stuxnet attached to usb any time it was connected, so krux could get infected
- wrench attack until I multisig
Fedi should use nostr for their login and for their chat
Using zeus and connecting to self-hosted LND with LNC. It works most of the time, but has connection hiccups. I have a well-connected node with plenty of liquidity in both directions.
Zeus has an lnd on the phone, but buying liquidity doesn't make sense in my scenario.
So I'm exploring using the phone's LND, opening a channel with my node with enough liquidity for most purchases, then if I need larger amounts, switch to my self-hosted node.
Is it as simple as opening a channel in RTL with my node ID? Is this a good plan?
