Why do you care if other countries are beating you within your own market? At the end of the day, the consumers have the most to gain from free trade. By failing to understand this, you fall into the same trap that the mercantilists have for several centuries.

Being able to pursue your own destiny is critical to convincing people to find the occupations that they get the joy of labor from the most. When such opportunities are removed, labor camps and gulags become a necessity.

Humans act in order to relieve themselves of their uneasiness, whether it be sadness, boredom, hunger, or something else. Praxeology is not concerned with WHY people feel uneasy. That is a job reserved for psychologists. Instead, praxeology is concerned with HOW people end their uneasiness.

Absolute advantage means you can produce more of a good than others, but fails to look at how to incentivize people to produce. Comparative advantage means you can produce it at lower opportunity cost, so specialization and trade make everyone better off. It's not about what you can produce the most, but rather what you're the best at. In the end, everyone benefits when skills are allowed to flourish. Quality over quantity.

However, it wasn't until the Austrians expanded on his point through the ideas of human action, dispersed knowledge, price signals, and entrepreneurial spirit that the division of labor was recognized as a critical element of human civilization.
