It's really interesting when you consider that activities considered degenerate all have one thing in common: High time preference Murder? High time preference Theft? High time preference Lying? High time preference And what's also interesting is that all three of these actions are condemned by both Christianity and Buddhism, despite both religions having separate time periods, beliefs, and parts of the world.
