On this day 26 years ago August 8, 1998, marked the start of my fateful encounter with fear, initiating an enduring alliance with adversity. This date holds significant weight in my existence, blending trepidation, dread, connection, and belief into a documented milestone of rebirth.
A voice from afar validates my presence and affirms my humanity, urging my spirit to embrace human emotions during this lifetime. While it may seem premature to undergo such depth at the age of five, the global power structures dictate the emotions and consciousness of countless children worldwide.
The Al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory was destroyed on that very day. The sound of the strike never leaves my memory, nor does the scent of my mother’s embrace and the sound of my father’s recitations for our protection. We sought refuge until the break of dawn, placing our hope in its arrival and the promise of safety from the looming threat.
Dawn came, and the threat ended, but the memory was immortalized, marking the beginning of a series of human moments over the years, forming a mental burden that will not dissipate until the body itself ceases to exist.
