First look at last year's compost under the microscope.
Lot of fungi, fungal spores, a variety of testate amoeba, a few nematodes, and all sorts of dormant stuff. This is the most variety I've seen in a compost sample so far. This compost will be spread on top of the soil and have all winter for the life to move down into the soil and do wonderful things. Fix the soil, fuck the state.
