I transplanted this maple from my neighbors yard about 2 years ago. image It was originally planted very poorly: compacted subsoil, hole just big enough for the root ball, didn't take the burlap off, and covered the surface with landscape fabric right up to the trunk. I didn't think it had much of a chance to survive. Something damaged the bark around the trunk severely, and it has this white stuff that might be a fungal disease? There are some dead branches that I'm leaving in to deter the deer from eating leaves in those areas. There were also plenty of bad pruning cuts that still need to be cleaned up. image Overall, this has been a great success. I made sure the root zone got some good quality compost, and also gave it a few doses of compost extract to get the life going in the soil. I put another layer of compost on top as mulch, and the seeds it contained made a nice cover crop.

New AI video model, FramePack. Longer videos, great frame to frame consistency. * Diffuse thousands of frames at full fps-30 with 13B models using 6GB laptop GPU memory. * Finetune 13B video model at batch size 64 on a single 8xA100/H100 node for personal/lab experiments. * Personal RTX 4090 generates at speed 2.5 seconds/frame (unoptimized) or 1.5 seconds/frame (teacache). * No timestep distillation. * Video diffusion, but feels like image diffusion.

Grass grows fast here this time of year and another bag of clippings was waiting for me tonight. So I had to a second stage to this rocket.

I just finished watching this and can highly recommend it to anyone that wants to understand what "AI" is, how it's made, the strengths and weaknesses, and more. I have a much better understanding now of pre-training, post-training (supervised fine tuning), reinforcement learning, tokenization, and reasoning models. I learned a few tricks too, like how to have AI use tools to get better results. This technology is extremely important, like Bitcoin, and the better you understand it the more you'll be able to benefit from it.
