I am curious. I help people frustrated with how difficult it is to use technology. I value autonomy, self-determination, empowerment, and uplifting people were they are, as they are. Neurodivergent. Norse. Gen X
Here’s The Native Daughters of the Golden West from Crush, released in 1985 by Orchestral Manœuvres in the Dark.
I still remember dubbing this to cassette from an album I borrowed from a friend. Sometimes my favorite track from an album isn’t one of the promoted singles.
You can never go back. The house I grew up in was sold as a “lot.” Massive new house being built in its place, asking $2.4 million. One more part of my past that lives only in photographs and my memories.
One thing that has been amusing, this go-round, is extracting Enhanced CD™ content. It’s low resolution and mono and QuickTime, but once upon a time, before we could watch every music video at will, it was fun to get those extra few minutes with favorite artists. And Plex plays all of it.
Came across what I believe is the only CD3 in my collection. I had forgotten about such things. Needless to say, that will not be going into my Apple SuperDive.
I can play more within Windows and Linux than I can with Apple hardware. The white box I’m using to build a parallel system is cast-off enterprise class hardware, albeit 7 or more years old. I can maintain and upgrade it for a fraction of the cost of a Mac Pro of similar vintage.
I’m partial to Home Sharing in the Apple ecosystem. I had a first gen AppleTV and I have been sharing my TV and Music libraries since I first could. But managing a sizable collection of media is getting slower and slower. I fear Apple abandoning this in favor of streaming from their cloud.
Standing up a home media server is fun. Populating your home media server is fun. Streaming from yur home media server? Fun! Maintaining your server? Mostly fun. Maintaining and updating your content? Now you’ve found all of the usability issues as well as the effects of past decisions.
The toolkit with the bits I used to open the case and remove the battery was more than twice as expensive. Torx bits needed to open the case. iFixit for the win for a decent kit.
When you scavenge parts for that aging workstation that you’re keeping alive, and then the hardware insists, because you’ve added more memory modules in more slots, that you install proprietary fans you didn’t know you would need. Thank the gods for eBay.
I’m interested in the kind of leadership that brings out everyone’s best. I’m interested in people working to make everyone’s life better. I’m interested in everyone feeling like they are enough.
Demands for unity or loyalty create competition and showmanship.
Stop me if this sounds wierd, but I have been modifying my driving habits. I have stopped trying to be the fastest, and I have stopped speeding in the vain attempt to make up time. I did not drive faster than 65 MPH during my commute this morning, and I was never in the left lane. And I lived.
