Interested in freedom, Appropriate use of technology to empower rather than oppress people
I went to my first in person bitcoin meet-up today. Nice people and interesting to see different perspectives. I wish I could have stayed longer.
I find myself in a pondering mood. Many will be mad but bitcoin itself does not solve all the problems people sat it does. What solves the problems is the secondary economies, the willingness to add value subtract leeches, and stop the division among ourselves. Let's realize that a difference in opinion does not devalue the other person.
I have an experience recently with coinkite.com the services that they offer looked to be very interesting but I find now 20 days after having placed my order and having heard nothing back but promises they a busy but will ship soon that perhaps I should do business with somebody who can deliver in a timely manner.
Today I learned: amethyst nostr client makes custom zap amounts difficult. It seemed you have to set it up, then select it as an option.
Crypto vs Bitcoin: I've noted that some people getting really wound up when you call Bitcoin Crypto. Can anyone explain that to me? Bitcoin is secured by cryptography so it seems to me that it is Crypto, even if a superior form. Why was the label Altcoins not sufficient?
I need a suggestion for good bitcoin podcasts. I seem to have fallen in with people cheer leading btc(which is fine) but I'd like to hear what people are doing with btc. Or even a more technical dive. Ideas? #bitcoin #podcast
How bullish am I on bitcoin? I got stung by my gox, blockfi, and Terra, and I still thing bitcoin is a great asset. Don't confuse people with networks. #bitcoin #altcoin #financialindependence
I'm wondering how visible my posts are. Let me know if you see this.
I see Nostr as having great potential, but until the ecosystem and features are built out, it will forever be a niche. dealing with sorting, loading times would be a great start #Nostr
Here's the thought. We often talk about how busy we are or how many things we have going on like its a badge of honor. Having take a mental health day my mind has calmed and I feel I've been productive and had mastery of my time without having my employer's demands to worry about. What do you see as a pathway to take back more of your own time and being master of your own schedule?
Bitcoin has been described as a "store of energy," but it's crucial to recognize that this phrase is metaphorical rather than literal. The idea is that the energy used in mining is "stored" in the value of Bitcoin as a digital asset. However, it's essential to understand that Bitcoin, like other currencies, primarily serves as a medium of exchange. It can be used to purchase goods and services, including energy, but its capacity to do so depends on the existing infrastructure and resources in a given area. An interesting aspect of Bitcoin mining is its flexibility in terms of energy consumption. Miners can turn their operations on or off depending on factors like energy costs, which helps manage overall energy usage. However, this doesn't mean that miners "add" energy to the system. Instead, they can adjust their energy use to maximize their mining profits.
I was a bit behind but I posted a lightning address from wallet of satoshi until I can get a node running
:Yes, I know this may be U.S. specific: Ive come to believe that the answer someone gives to "what is your phone number" Says a lot about the size of the world they know. People in small towns will give a few digits, assuming you know the area code you'd want to dial. Those who have travelled or have seen more areas will give the area code, especially as you communicate across state lines. Those who are especially well travelled may include country code and or dialing prefixes as a matter of practice.
Is anyone else concerned about what will motivate nostr nodes to keep running. I get it that many play with it as a public good, but if we take bitcoin as an example, satoshi knew it had to motivate people to provide the infrastructure. Bitcoin has block rewards. What will nostr have?
