If you’re talking about “the best passport”, really you mean “the best citizenship.”
So why don’t you just say that?

You can reliably get a second citizenship by investment in about 3-6 months from one of about 8 countries.

you're an American with a criminal record in California and you're pursuing second citizenship elsewhere, you're probably gonna need to get your California Department of Justice ("DOJ") background check.
Why?
Because the CalDOJ is the repository that reports CA conviction data to the FBI CJIS.
The FBI CJIS, in turn, issues your FBI IdHS ("backgound check") that you need to naturalize in most, but not all (Hey, shout out Hungarian simplified naturalization!) countries.
Here's a step by step guide on how you can request your own CalDOJ background check. 👇
Also, in the comments, is my breakdown of how criminal history information is reported to the FBI and the steps necessary to fix/correct/change an FBI IdHS WHEN possible. 👇

Pro tip: A great substitute for "cool story, bro" is
"Fascinating."
Knocks the wind right out of their sails. Unfortunately, some of my friends have turned it around on me now too.
So beware if you intend to implement.

What happens when the AI bots gas me up so much that I prefer their fawning praise over interacting with real humans?
Dear AI Bots: flattery gets you everywhere with me. 🤣
Perceptions about countries can change at a sloth’s speed.
Thinking of a long trip I made to Latin America in 2018 reminds me of just how long it can take information about countries to proliferate.
In the summer of 2018, I took a solo four country trip to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico. I was expecting a little pushback from friends and family about the safety of traveling to Venezuela.
Upon hearing of the trip, my aunt had a concerned voice.
She asked: "Is it gonna be safe in..."
[I was anticipating the sentence would surely end with "Venezuela"]
"...Colombia?" she said.
I was stunned and amused at the same time.
At the time, Caracas was one of the crime and murder capitals of the world. Colombian major cities were (and probably still are) far safer for tourists.
My Aunt was likely thinking of a Colombia from 30 years prior - the late '80s and early '90s, whereas she hadn't gotten the memo of how much violent crime Venezuela had fallen into.
It was a great illustration of how long it can take country perceptions to change.
Mind you, my aunt is no ignoramus, or American isolationist. She (along with many other very intelligent people) just had a very outdated concept about these foreign countries.
Oftentimes that dissonance between perception and reality creates an information arbitrage for residence and mobility opportunities. Many are skating to where the puck was, while others are skating to where the puck is going, as my canuck colleague David Lesperance is fond of saying.
That's part of the fun and challenge of being a mobility advocate/lawyer/advisor.

Here are 10 simply stated reasons I've seen that someone might need to naturalize URGENTLY. 👇
I've had clients dealing with 8 of the 10 issues (luckily not all in one client 😬).

Might as well start posting some brief reviews. I’ll start next week with monthly book reviews on my website www.malakoutilaw.com.

Just got my new edition of Bitcoin Magazine. 👇
Interestingly, on the 3rd page, it contains the statement “This magazine is AI free” - the first one I’ve seen.
As AI written content proliferates, will there be a significant market demand for such an assurance from publishers?
I think so.
Many, if not most, readers want to know whether what they are reading is straight from the fingers of a person, with no AI middleman.
I think readers will absolutely still read AI-generated content but they’ll want to know with a disclosure.
If what you’re reading is entirely written by a person, the benefit of the written value (if any) accrues to the author. The author is credited with having the idea, experience, expertise, opinion, or mix thereof, etc.
As readers and consumers, we make significant decisions based on that judgment.
On the other hand, to the extent the writing is assisted by AI, the benefit of the written value is NOT accrued to the author.
The reader may still find the written piece very valuable, but he/she naturally won’t credit the AI-wiley “author” with the idea, experience, expertise, opinion, etc. in the piece, as in the alternative scenario above.
I believe that simple difference in reader perception will, sooner than later, create the market demand for an assurance that “this [content] is AI free.”
And an automatic presumption that the content is AI-generated where that assurance is absent
What do you think?
BTW, this post is AI free. 😄

For citizenship by descent cases, U.S. WWI draft registration cards can sometimes provide secondary evidence to prove something critical in the case.
It can also just be cool to have for your family genealogy.
WWI draft cards include:
- The registrant's country of citizenship;
- What stage the registrant was in U.S. naturalization process (i.e. did they file "declaration of intention" yet)
- The registrant's race;
- The registrant's date of birth;
- The registrant's nearest relative (oftentimes the wife)
As I've written many times before, after proper screening for eligibility, the hardest part of citizenship by descent cases is proving the eligibility via certified or original documents.
This is doubly true for cases needing to trace ancestry back 100+ years.
You can request a certified copy of a U.S. draft registration card from the U.S. National Records Archive ("NARA"). 👇👇👇

For some European citizenship by descent cases (Italy, Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland, and others), you may asked to show that your ancestor did NOT naturalize in the U.S. before a certain date.
For that, a "certificate of nonexistence of record" from USCIS may do the trick.
Luckily, the cost is right in your price range ($0) and the form is only 4 pages long.
Here's what the certificate looks like and how you request one. 👇

Narrow, deep freedom of movement --> right of residency (including citizenship).
Both cuff & key of freedom of movement --> the passport itself.

On linkedin, I’m starting to see a few written posts that are totally dissonant in style and tone than what I’ve seen from those posters before.
I suspect they’re getting an assist from AI.
Makes me wonder…
Do you hold written posts/articles that are given an assist by AI in the same esteeem as totally “manually” written articles?
Especially thought/idea heavy ones.
My initial instinct is that the more the written piece delves into ideas and so-called thought leadership, the more disingenuous it is to post it as one’s own, if assisted by AI.
On the other end of the spectrum, data-heavy posts seem more like fair game to me.
What do you think?

Another state-level bill that lumps citizens in with nation-states. Also, no exception for dual Chinese-American citizens.
Shameful.
“The bill makes no exceptions for those with dual citizenship in the United States and China, though does grandfather in Chinese citizens who have already purchased property in the state, allowing them to keep their property but not purchase more.”
