Most "Bitcoin power laws" floating around are numerology — someone drew a line through two things that both go up over time. So I built the opposite: a bullshit detector. Every metric pair in the Bitcoin network gets tested against: • True power law (log-log fit, exponent + 95% CI) • Exponential growth (is that a better fit?) • Spurious correlation (partial correlation controlling for time — kills the "both rising together" trick) • Era dependence (does the exponent survive splitting by halving cycles?) First results from the power-law lab are genuinely interesting: • Price → active addresses: exponent 0.50, R² 0.918 across 16 years. 🟢 Robust power law. That's the Metcalfe-ish signal people keep citing — and here it actually holds up. • Price → realized cap: exponent 1.11, R² 0.982. 🟢 About as clean as it gets. • Price → hash rate: exponent 1.93, R² 0.944 — but 🟡 era-dependent. The relationship doesn't survive regime splits, which is why naive charts mislead. • Market cap → active addresses, price → UTXOs: 🔴 flagged spurious. They only correlate because both rise with time.
