Nearly done sanding. A few of the tighter areas to finish and then I can move on to polishing. There are more air bubbles than I would have liked and some visible swirls in the clear resin, but I’m still happy overall with how it’s turning out. This sculpture was a pretty expensive experiment for me and the largest resin pour I’ve ever attempted, so I’m glad it worked out in the end. image

And done. Right in time for Mother’s Day. My neighbor commissioned a planter as a gift for his mom and we settled on using this beautiful chunk of onyx from New Mexico because it slightly resembled a heart shape. Live near LA and want a stone planter? I love making planters in general so shoot me a message. Shipping costs are normally prohibitive though, so best if you live within driving distance…or have a lot of Bitcoin to spend. image

Hey Bitaxers, who’s going to Vegas later this month? If you’ll be there stop by the art gallery to say hi and check out my artwork. I’ll have this piece and two others on display and up for auction.

Made some good progress today. Still working with 100 grit sandpaper and I’ll continue that tomorrow before moving up a grade. This hazy look is kinda cool, but I’m taking it all the way up past 3000 grit or higher before polishing up to a glass like finish. But now… bed. image

So much sanding ahead of me… With resin you need to go up to like 3000+ grit before polishing in order to get that glass like finish. On the plus side, it’s way softer than stone so it should hopefully go much faster. I’m loving how this is turning out in any case. I really wish I’d had enough leftover calcite pieces to fill the mold, but I’m still happy with this mempool-ish composition too. image

Can anyone recommend a good pair of anti vibration gloves that won’t fall apart? I’ve gone through too many different pairs to count at this point and they always fall apart at the seams. Currently eyeing this pair of cestus gloves with Kevlar stitching… image

Most of the cardboard mold removed aside from a few tricky areas… went quicker than I’d hoped. Tomorrow I’ll remove the rest and then do some more targeted sanding to even out the curves. I’m also planning to slice away the tops of the protruding blocks so the front surface is flat. There should still be some nice variation in block height?within the resin after that. THEN I’ll move on to sanding everything to a high enough grit where I can polish it all to a high shine. I’ve got my work cut out for me, but the result will be worth it. image

Resin is cured. Now to painstakingly remove the cardboard mold I used… this is going to be a pain… Good news is it stands up on its own and I think it’ll turn out beautifully once it’s all polished up. It’s hard to see the true colors right now, but once the mold is removed, light will show through the sides. image

Carving continues ⚒️🏃🏻‍♂️₿ Currently working on the details of Hal’s face. With this kind of detail work I feel like I’m taking two steps forward and one step back, constantly adjusting and readjusting tiny little areas. But still making good, albeit slow progress. Being self taught, I try to choose projects that will force me to level up, and this time is no exception. Not only is this the most complex carving I’ve ever done, but the subject is Hal Finney. So there’s no room for mistakes. Back to work… image

The last resin layer is curing! Never poured this much resin in my life. Probably around 4 gallons total, and this ₿ will end up being 2 1/2 feet tall. Not a cheap experiment so I hope it turns out the way I think it will. Stay tuned… image

Where are the Texas Bitcoiners at? I carved this ₿ sculpture from a beautiful block of Texas Gold Limestone from a quarry near Austin, and I’d love to see it end up back home in the Lone Star State. $12k + S&H or BTC equivalent Shoot me a DM if you’re interested!🤝 image

Less than a month till Vegas! I’m excited to finally exhibit these pieces for the world to see in person. If you’re attending the @Bitcoin Magazine conference make sure to visit the art gallery and check out the @Scarce.City auction. Check out the auctions even if you’re not attending. The art this year is going to be great, and I’m proud to exhibit alongside so many talented artists.

This is one of my favorite photos so far from the photoshoot the other day. I feel like this composition should be called “Sly Roundabout Way.” What do you think? image
