When the point becomes market growth, or growth as a general concept, this is distinct from progress. Growth might be an indicator of progress, or it could be a cancerous abberition -- the forward progress of destruction. This is what makes his manifesto insufficient at best. 2/2
Marc Andreesen's manifesto is an example of what happens when the classic spirit of techno-optimism (think Arthur C. Clarke) becomes unmoored from its largely humanist, rationalist values. Technology must exist to better the human condition, or it has no point at all. 1/2
I consider myself to be a techno-optimist but I am cringing and gas-facing through a lot of Marc Andreesen's Techno-Optimist Manifesto. He doesn't speak for all of us as he seems to conflate techno-optimism with hyper-capitalism. That's not a given.
This halftime drum 'n' bass business is the subgenre that shows the most energy and forward thinking. In my opinion it's the leading innovation in the genre and this is one of my favourite bangers.
"In its thwarted optimism, the news is the disillusioned progeny of the enlightenment. Refusing to square with human nature, it allows our hopes to smash constly against the same shoals. It greets every new day with faux cherubic innocence only to stoke up rage and disillusionment at our condition by nightfall." - Alain de Botton, The News
In a strange way you have to respect the mental and rhetorical acrobatics Marco Rubio is a able to demonstrate in trying to make Trump's clearly ill-conceived plans seem like they make sense.

Look, Jason Statham's Working Man is not a great film, but did you really expect it to be? It's a satisfying, check-your-brain-at-the-door action film. As such, it's a McDonalds burger of a film. It's not great, but it'll do.
