Track meet today so I had to do early work. luckily as a teacher, 28 yrs ago, I got my bus license to help my small rural school, and my kids school hired me to drive the track meets, so I get to watch my 9th and 10th grader boys run and get paid for it. Today is my last day of maple sap collection for the season. weather broke and trees look ready to bud.. I turn buckets upside-down so small amounts of sap don't drop in and then sour/mold before I collect and clean them. I collected almost 7000 gallons of sap in buckets and bags this year. a bucket will fill in about 8 hours when sap is running. #grownostr #permaculture #circulareconomy #foodstr

GM nostr. Proof of work for my sats for syrup. 5 a.m. in Ohio here and I just got fire going.. Had a great sap run and have to boil as much as possible today on my wood fired homemade evaporator. Cutting wood also today while I boil because I'm running low. Believe it or not the maple syrup industry is also commercialized. Tubing in woods, blending syrups, natural gas or fuel oil burners, pressure filters with diatomaceous earth, and if you ever see "spicy syrup" or "bourbon aged syrup" it's cause they take their worst syrup and add a strong flavor to it and market it. I'm old school and still boil outside over wood. Each 5-10 gallon batch has its own unique characteristics. Doesn't look that cold. ramps are coming up and collecting sap for my maple syrup. It's 32 and dropping, getting to 20 tonight. I'm not a big "hat guy" but in the winter I am a beanie guy.
