A bit of a long post, and possibly controversial too. I ponder for a couple of days wether I should write it or not. The spat between Mr Musk and Brazil as well as the online reaction is interesting to me. Now, don’t get mad, I’m only throwing some thoughts out there, I’ve got no agenda and no conviction on the matter. Free speach is important but a few thing nag me about the whole situation. I haven’t seen any news/ reports about massive demonstration in favour of X in Brazil. It seems like the internet community is more outraged about it than the directly affected brazilian people. If X brings such value to them, they would surely react somehow. Wasn’t Mr Musk accomodating India’s Modis requests about Twitter, not so long ago? And wasn’t he in China just this year? Not really bastions of free speach, neither of them. Yet not much backlash online about these countries, as I recall. It seems to me Mr Musk has clearly taken a political stance this year and there seems to be an axis between Trump, Modi, and Xi. Wasn’t Mr Musk helping Bolsonaros gov in Brazil with Starlink, a few years ago? Isn’t it strange that this feud online serves well to portray the brazilian gov as a supressor of the freedom of speach? Brazil is a BRICS country with a left leaning gov after somewhat contested election. Don’t shout at me. Just trying to understand what’s behind the curtain. Mr. Musk didn’t seem to take the same kind of stand against India or China, why Brazil? And why now? The spat has been going on for some time. Is X piggy backing a bit on the wake of Durov’s arrest and using the online outcry that was created to pressure the brazilian gov? Got no skin in the game, just hugely courious about the ways of the world. Also think higly of Nostr, hence this honest post. Happy to read replies but not to receive verbal agression. Cheers
