Average wind gusts of 40-50mph today and have topped 70mph with low humidity equals widespread #fires here in #Oklahoma This is nuts.

We have takeoff!! #Spring has sprung and the #fruittrees are blooming and leafing out. This is my favorite time of year. The smell of the blooms are second to none. This little guy is a winesap apple. image

Some pics of our camping trip over the weekend at Roman Nose State Park. It was really nice to get out and explore a new place. Hard to believe all this beauty is plopped right in the middle of the vast flatlands of farm fields. #campstr #fishstr

Nursing life is an amazing thing. The #incubation process is going swell. Out of the 30 or so eggs, there were 22 that were fertile. You can see this little guy wiggling around in the egg. 😊 Fingers crossed they all make it. #chicks #grownostr #homesteading image

I keep forgetting to add updates. Today I planted some peas in the raised beds. I also soaked half of them in water to see how they germinate differently. The propagation box is almost full now. I added some magnolia, fig, creeping thyme, willow and a few others. Most of the seeds I started have now sprouted and are looking 💪🏼. I’ll probably plant out some broccoli and other brassicas soon now that I’ve rebuilt the raised bed cover. I was also given a whole bunch of stuff for growing mushrooms 🍄‍🟫. You know me, time to learn a new #skill. #Mycology has started to peak my interest as I’ve learned about soil food web. For now I have some “fun” spores. Soon I plan on growing some other types. Have a good night nostrland. image

I was able to get the #aquaponics #propagation system set up. Huge thanks to @IdahoPuma for hooking me up and offering some knowledge on how these systems work. Yet another skill to learn and add to the arsenal. I’m planning on cloning a ton of trees in the future and needed a more reliable set it and forget it system for my busy spring. Currently running trials on mulberry, Asian pear, rosemary and pothos. #organixfarms #homestead image

Having local connections is the best. We were able to exchange some eastern red cedar logs with a #local #sawmill. They were able to saw true dimension 6x6 posts, 2x8, 2x6, and 2x4s for our lean-to #project we’ll be starting soon. All he wanted in exchange was log for log. That right there is what #community and social capital is all about!! #homestead

The #incubation process has officially begun for the year. I can’t wait for the new chicks to join our family. I’ll be candling them in a few days to see which ones are fertile. The kiddos are super excited. #chicks #eggs #homestead #grownostr image

I think there were mass casualties in the greenhouse. My sickness caused poor planning and well the cold weather will do cold things. Loss count tbd. I now have a backup propane heater in place to try and salvage as many plants as possible.

We got another bioreactor built. I’m super excited about this mix. Has quite a bit of biochar, chicken coop bedding, food scrap pit mix, indigenous leaf mold, and capped with some Nicky aged wood chips. image

Anyone have experience propagating passion fruit (maypop) from root cuttings? I had success with vine cuttings but I want to get a head start for some spring sales as these are in pretty high demand. #propagation #garden #homestead #asknostr

Taking a shot at #grafting today with some Asian #pear scion wood. Grafted to a native pear, Bartlett pear, and a kiefer pear. This is a learning experience for me. I’ve never attempted grading before. It may be too early in the season for sap to be flowing but I thought I’d give it a shot. #homestead #fruittrees #foodforest #grownostr
