I had a brief look at IPLD. I was trying hard to figure out what problem it solves. I think I have figured that out: it makes the developers feel better, it scratches their itch for structure and order. IMHO that is all it solves.

During the potato blight in Scotland, starving people were not given food. No, that was a moral hazard. Instead they were given jobs - jobs to build useless things like walls where no wall was needed. And in exchange for work they were given oats. This was to avoid moral hazard. You can't just give someone in need what they need, you have to make them work for it, otherwise people will take advantage. But the giver was getting nothing out of it, just keeping people honest. What an ethic. How far we have fallen.

Bluesky proves people want to be in an echo chamber. They don't want interaction with people who disagree with them. Bluesky is their new echo chamber. I thought follow lists did that pretty well (just follow people you like). But maybe nostr needs communities or some kind of limitations on who can reply. I haven't thought about this from a technical perspective, I'm just spitballing. I believe Nostr is eventually capable of giving every potential user exactly what they want.

#politics I haven't posted about Syria because holy-fuck it is complicated. And happened fast. And I don't have a simple good-guy bad-guy opinion on something this crazy complicated. It can't be explained as a simple US-Russia proxy war, or a simple Israel expansionist war, or a simple Jihad (HTS isn't actually jihadist). All the groups involved are both good and bad depending on which perspective you look at it from. All I can say for sure is I don't like seeing people die, and I'm glad I'm not there.

As the USD falls to new lows, there is no other place I'd rather be than nostr.
