TIL (via experimentation) that while BLAKE3 is far faster than SHA-512, when used within a much slower cryptographic primitive like EdDSA it doesn't matter which hashing algorithm you use (performance improvement was only about 3%, and some runs it was worse).

I have made pumpkin pies for people here in NZ and they rave about them. Pies are not usually deserts here, and pumpkin is used almost exclusively in savory contexts, so it is quite a unique tasty experience for them. But I don't do it in November, I do it when pumpkins are cheap (opposite seasons).
