> He that is appointed to kill an enemy, if he leave striking before the other ceases living, doth but half his work. > Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you. -- John Owen, _[Of the Mortification of Sin in Believers](https://ccel.org/ccel/owen/mort)_ (a fantastic read!) We must take a fiercely militaristic, warrior-like, almost rage-filled stance against our indwelling sin. Attack our inner weakling with righteous indignation. Allow no quarter. Why? because: > Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you]. To him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. [1 Peter 5:8-11](https://blb.sc/002bx6), KJV
Three years ago today, I wrote to a family member: > BTC will bounce back, don't worry about that. It's a long-term investment / de-risking strategy. Watch where BTC is in 3 years from now. I dropped a note in my calendar to follow-up and see whether that was good advice--and apologize if it wasn't. BTC "price" on 6/24/22: $21k
Email from 9yo son: "what I like about these light sabers is that they're vintage... kinda... sorta... yeah its not vintage. vintage means 20 years old or above so like your vintage you know" 🤷🏼 😂 #DadLife #Zing
## Adam's Wife Had Two Names Before the Great Rebellion: > And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called **Woman**, _because she was taken out of Man_. [Gen 2:23](https://blb.sc/004BAF) After the Great Rebellion--and more importantly, after the seed-promise (protoevangelion): > And Adam called his wife's name **Eve**; _because she was the mother of all living_. [Gen 3:20](https://blb.sc/002UbY) Meredith Kline pointed out that for Adam to rename his wife--whose sin had plunged him and all their posterity into a state of sin and misery--for him to rename her "Eve," that is, "the mother of life [or of all living]," was a statement of faith. It was Adam's response to the 'seed promise' of Genesis 3:15 that, though they must be exiled/excommunicated, God would sovereigntly "put enmity [back] between her seed and the seed of the serpent." On the vertical plane, it was Adam saying, "I believe you." On the horizontal plane, it can even be seen as an act of forgiveness and reconcilation between husband and wife. A new beginning, a new start, symbolized by a new name. That's a theme we see over and over again in Scripture, all the way through to The Revelation. #Christian #catholic #Reformed #Presbyterian #grownostr
Muse's new single is more of the same--amazing acoustical bliss blended, sadly, with the same tired, worn-out, immature, "edgy atheist" trope-filled lyrics. Imagine watching a cinematically awe-inducing movie played by truly excellent actors...who suddenly work in product placement or even climate change tropes. It breaks the fourth wall, provokes an eye-roll and a walk-out. Like on the TV shows where some feature of the car they're advertising makes it into the dialogue, or they zoom in on the 'backup assist' feature? Forced, overplayed, unnatural. Lame. #tunestr
The most surreal part about watching Back to the Future with my 11yo (on VidAngel) last night was Marty's mid-80s electric guitar thrash session: it was just as foreign to him as it was to the 1955 crowd. "Why did he kick the speaker??" "Why is he on the ground??" mid-80s were fun but let's be honest, the pop/rock music scene was...pretty weird LOL
If you've been procrastinating on making the full switch to Proton, here's a link that will throw me a couple of sats if you get a paid account: I'm on Proton Ultimate which inclues Mail (unlimited aliases, which I use everywhere), Calendar, VPN, Drive, and Pass. Proton Pass supports Passkeys - which I've never used yet - but I might start migrating everything that way if it's actually more secure - and unless I hear that that's a bad idea - e.g., what if I lose my device, etc.(?) This is an honest question for my #Christian brothers and sisters. Do you believe that catering to people's "preferred pronons" is a violation of the 9th Commandment? > **Q. 143. Which is the ninth commandment?** > A. The ninth commandment is, Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. > **Q. 144. What are the duties required in the ninth commandment?** > A. The duties required in the ninth commandment are, the preserving and promoting of truth between man and man, and the good name of our neighbor, as well as our own; appearing and standing for the truth; and from the heart, sincerely, freely, clearly, and fully, speaking the truth, and only the truth, in matters of judgment and justice, and in all other things whatsoever; a charitable esteem of our neighbors; loving, desiring, and rejoicing in their good name; sorrowing for and covering of their infirmities; freely acknowledging of their gifts and graces, defending their innocency; a ready receiving of a good report, and unwillingness to admit of an evil report, concerning them; discouraging talebearers, flatterers, and slanderers; love and care of our own good name, and defending it when need requireth; keeping of lawful promises; studying and practicing of whatsoever things are true, honest, lovely, and of good report. > **Q. 145. What are the sins forbidden in the ninth commandment?** > A. The sins forbidden in the ninth commandment are, all prejudicing the truth, and the good name of our neighbors, as well as our own, especially in public judicature; giving false evidence, suborning false witnesses, wittingly appearing and pleading for an evil cause, outfacing and overbearing the truth; passing unjust sentence, calling evil good, and good evil; rewarding the wicked according to the work of the righteous, and the righteous according to the work of the wicked; forgery, concealing the truth, undue silence in a just cause, and holding our peace when iniquity calleth for either a reproof from ourselves, or complaint to others; speaking the truth unseasonably, or maliciously to a wrong end, or perverting it to a wrong meaning, or in doubtful or equivocal expressions, to the prejudice of the truth or justice; speaking untruth, lying, slandering, backbiting, detracting, talebearing, whispering, scoffing, reviling, rash, harsh, and partial censuring; misconstructing intentions, words, and actions; flattering, vainglorious boasting, thinking or speaking too highly or too meanly of ourselves or others; denying the gifts and graces of God; aggravating smaller faults; hiding, excusing, or extenuating of sins, when called to a free confession; unnecessary discovering of infirmities; raising false rumors, receiving and countenancing evil reports, and stopping our ears against just defense; evil suspicion; envying or grieving at the deserved credit of any; endeavoring or desiring to impair it, rejoicing in their disgrace and infamy; scornful contempt, fond admiration; breach of lawful promises; neglecting such things as are of good report, and practicing, or not avoiding ourselves, or not hindering what we can in others, such things as procure an ill name. After reading the above, I think, "how can it _not_ be a violation of the ninth commandment?" Is refusal to go along with this nonsense...picking a foolish fight? ...is it just another flavor of spotlight-stealing self-aggrandizement? ...or is it just, plain, quiet, obedience? On the more civil/political side of the question, shouldn't we reject 'compelled speech'? Because, unlike a surname or given/chosen name, the "pronoun police" thing leaks out in to one's entire religious worldview, involving the nature of objective reality and the nature of mankind. Some poor/sick soul, born a "Larry," wants to be called "Loretta," fine--but to demand I _lie_ (with the threat of the civil sword, no less) and say he's the opposite sex than what he is, well, that's a whole different ball game. That's a form of linguistic tyranny--which I'm not particularly fond of. How have you dealt with the "they/thems" and the "he-shes" and the -- whatevers -- in your professional work? For now, my plan is to only use the person's first name and just "stay off the X" by avoiding pronouns altogether...after all, we're there to get good work done, not to devolve into NeoMarxian / Postmodernist political posturing.

Just as 'husband' is more verb than noun, so also 'father' is more verb than noun. Fathers (in the U.S.): are you prepared to shepherd your sons (and possibly daughters) through the Conscientious Objector (CO) process if the draft gets reinstated? I'm only starting this process, so if anyone has anythign to add, please drop a note. E.g., I am uncertain whether this option is "avialable" for non-pacificists. With Rothbard, I believe (and have taught my children) that the only just war is a defensive war--but NOT that all war is wrong. (The right to wage a defensive war is an extension of the right to self-defense, which is the very expression of the right to life itself.) 1. young men "must" register for the SS within 30 days of turning 18 2. there is no way to register as a CO prior to a draft, but one can indicate his CO status on the registration card 3. here's a list of questions to work through before potentially appearing before the local board to defend one's moral or religious beliefs (though this form is decidely pacifist)
