So when a repository or project changes licenses, does the old license apply to all code in commits pre that change/commit, or does the new license apply retroactively as well? (I assume the former)

Day is going well. Made a coffee with the AeroPress, inverted. Went to put it into the cup and realised too late I forgot the end cap and filter. Thankfully I had the foresight to put the cup on the AeroPress before turning it over, but still. It's going to be a day.
