Mood and mind have a bi-directional relationship to behaviour: it's not one-way. If you want to change your psyche, adjust your actions. It may in fact be more effective to commit to meaningful action before you have the internal motivation to do so. Without the benefits of completed behaviour, your motivation may never come. #Psychology
Guys I've gone dark on nostr for a bit now. Part of the reason is that I've been trying to get outdoors a little more, including trying my hand at hunting. I'm happy to report my first hunting success during my WMU's turkey shotgun season. ๐Ÿฆƒ image
Nostr, I've been so busy with psychotherapy that all you get is butter-fried cast iron frying pan steaks. My sincerest apologies. #steakstr #psychology ๐Ÿฅฉ image
One day we are all going to look back at ourselves recklessly zapping generational wealth away and universally regard ourselves as wild madmen.
What you think and what you believe must be distinguished. Even in this moment. To fail to do so is termed cognitive fusion - reducing self-concept and awareness to only what your broken and highly suggestible thinker thinks. The truth is, sometimes thoughts mislead us. You can't entirely rest your trust on them. They take us away from what's true or what matters, and lead us only to immediate gratification and away from pain. We think from our of our varying states (hungry, irritable, sad, anxious, despondent). Beliefs, goals, and values are truer, and not as momentary and suggestible as thoughts. They are based on higher more pure and unreachable things that are less given to momentary destabilization. They are firmer to base your speech and actions upon. Be present, open up, and do what matters. #Psychology #AcceptanceAndCommitmentTherapy
Hey #nostriches, what's the best way to get liquid Bitcoin into plain old on-chain #Bitcoin? Asking for a friend.
If you're wondering about how to try #mindfulness, consider trying out one of these guided audio samples. There may be other types of spiritual mindfulness out there, but mindfulness to an ACT therapist is all about the ability to be in the present moment rather than carried off somewhere else by your mind, flexibly controlling your awareness to what you choose, and interrupting reaction and rabit trails with a noticing acceptance. In the link, the 'Dropping anchor' exercises are for grounding during a difficult moment, while '#Mindfulness of the hand' or 'Hexaflexercise' may be good general introductions to ACT-infused mindfulndss. The principles and approach you learn by practicing with any guided recordings can and should be later implemented outside of that moment. This is a skill to be learned. Like any other, it will not be easy at first, and you will become distracted or disturbed by what you observe. This skill's value is found when the fundamentals of psychological mindfulness are brought to bear on your ordinary day, perhaps even without your noticing. #Psychology
