Tobacco industry causes over 20% more emissions than Bitcoin. And instead of helping people in places under authoritarian rule or with hyperinflating currencies survive, it kills people. Guess which industry Senator Warren wants to stop. The one without a huge lobby. Source, University of Cambridge, https://ccaf.io/cbnsi/cbeci/ghg/comparisons(check out fashion, at 7x emissions of BTC) and Gold, which no currency is still backed by but is being mined anyway causing 1½ the emissions of BTC. Emissions aside, there are other environmental effects of mining, too. (See picture) So clearly, there are bigger polluters. Including Tobacco. Which literally kills. So... their arguments about only being able to spend money on things that provide value to society hold no weight. They are threatened by Bitcoin, because it is better money. image

Coinbase just got a license to operate in the Bahamas. Gemini announced on Thursday an office in India. They are shopping around for other jurisdictions. The US doesn't want tax revenue, if it comes with freedom, they would prefer debt.

So Onlyzaps, for a while I thought it was a Nostr-based Onlyfans-clone. I was wrong. (Although it still could be.) Either way, I think likes are a good way to say, "hey, I like that." Or, "I agree," but maybe not "like it so much I part with sats that will one day be a dollar each." Just because someone didn't like your thing THAT much (enoughto zap), it's cool not to get complete radio-silence. (It took me a while to break through Nostr. I kinda still am.) But does hitting the like absolve the person of 'duty' to provide value? IS THERE any duty to provide value to others? Of course not. It's just being nice. So whatever people feel like doing, it's up to them. (Side note, I highly recommend Wallet Connect, now I don't have to open another app to zap. Also, if you pick and choose your zaps 'too much' (whats too much?, anyway) just lower the amount you zap.

Mica, a European crypto regulation bill passed. Not that bad. The US's will be way worse. However, their Travel Rule (a rule requiring kyc info to be included/attached to the transaction ) for transaction over $1000 Luckily, the law was changed to only include hosted wallets and not peer to peer (real) Bitcoin payments, just payments on exchanges (which already have no privacy) Not too long ago, Bluewallet got canceled for a bit for making functionality to allow complying with AOPP (Travel Rule) (They removed that functionality pretty quickly, but looks like they didn't end up needing it.)

I see parallels between the recent crackdowns on Bitcoin by the US government and Elon "walling off his garden." First with the "basically anywhere link ban", now the more recent 5ubstack link ban. With both money and information, free and open networks will win. image

Hey, please retweet for visibility. There is a scammer who makes websites that so far have ended in '.pages.dev" and emulates airdrops for popular "altcoin" projects. Previously Optimism, Arbitrum and now Layer Zero (shown Below) they set up shop with #[0] .to names to look more legitimate. If you go to the website they try to get you to connect your wallet to receive an airdrop, but if you do, it will definitely steal your "altcoins." They interact with people in our network by replying or boosting (aka retweeting). This is really only a problem for "multicoin" nostr users, as it's looking for something that can do a Wallet Connect thing with, so Maxis are safe, but in the spirit of tolerance, I'm looking out for the non-maxi Nostr community here. image

(Cross-posted from a 5 tweet thread thread) Years of Bitcoin Twitter being the main app where discussing Bitcoin happens recently has had effects on the community. It rewards short-hot extreme takes. The more extreme, the better. This causes the most engagement, which causes the algorithm to reward you but is it good for the community? Also, I am in my second tweet. This is because I am a nym, and nyms have a character limit, as did everyone for most of Twitter's history. Concepts that required more nuance than 280 characters allowed simply were stripped down to a all-or-nothing version of the argument. (Any change to Bitcoin is an attack on Bitcoin.) BitcoinTalk, or even.. Redd.. well at least BitcoinTalk had much higher level conversations. Enter Nostr. No Algorithms. No Character limits I really think the Bitcoin community spending years communicating primarily over Twitter is the main culprit in the cartoonish version of the Bitcoin maximalist. To keep on getting picked up by the algorithm, you have to be more and more extreme than the rest of the crowd. How can you display any nuance in 280 characters? You can't. You can write a metaphor. You can quote someone else's tweet and dunk on them. Nostr will reward real content creators with the world's best money. Twitter rewarded shitposters with followers.

So the Inscription of the Magazine went for 1.25 btc ($37,760.59) to Trevor Owens (He's a Stacks Guy) A funny thing is Casey (who created Ordinals and Inscriptions) HATED Stacks. Because it created an altcoin token. (Rootstock which is also doing similar stuff didn't.) Stacks JUMPED on this craze and integrated it into their wallet and it was the first mobile wallet (I think at least) to allow inscriptions. You can get things like that done faster when you print money out of thin air. image

Well, pre cocaine-bowie... included this funny song featuring Bowie meeting a Gnome and making plenty of Gnome puns. "What's that clicking noise? That's Fred, he's a metro-gnome!" The Gnome voice was a sped up recorded producer Gus Dudgeon famous for Elton John's most acclaimed recordings, Bowie's Space Oddity, Zombie's She's Not There and much more, although the song was produced by Mike Vernon who produced the first two Fleetwood Mac albums and worked with Clapton in the 1966 Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton LP. Released April 14, 1967 (Same year as Beatles Sgt. Peppers) #tunestr

If you're at Coachella this year and you don't like music (?) perhaps you are there to hear some lectures. "How the Moon's wobble can make sea level rise worse" "Plant-forward Nutrition for a Healthier Population" Or you can catch twice "Insects are the Headliners at Every Dinner Table." (entirely serious) image

If you use Amethyst, I highly recommend people switch from WoS to using Alby because of Amethyst Wallet Connect. 2 click zaps. (Click Lightning bolt, click which zap amount) no opening your lightning Wallet. Also you get to pick your LNURL. That's cool. Not really sure why WoS doesn't have the technology to let you do that. Doesn't seem like it would be the most impressive part of their business.
