Yesterday my student said to me it's cool at night compared to day because there is shade everywhere. I corrected her saying that there is no shade at night because there is no sunlight. A few hours later I realised she was completely correct. The darkness of night is nothing more than shade cast by Earth itself! When we think of shade, we usually imagine something we can see due to the surrounds being lit.
