Introducing umbrelOS 1.1 with Terminal, the umbrelOS Beta Program, several enhancements, and bug fixes.
Terminal allows you to run custom commands in umbrelOS or within a specific app.
And with the umbrelOS Beta Program, you can opt in to receiving beta updates to gain early access to new features, and help us refine them.
Also new:
- Start, stop, and troubleshoot apps by right-clicking them.
- View an app’s update progress on its app icon on the home screen.
This update is rolling out now to Umbrel Home and Raspberry Pi users. Users on other devices - stay tuned! We’re on track to transition you from umbrelOS 0.5.x to the latest version this month.

the little things in umbrelOS 1.0 ✨
beauty outside, beast inside

it's a privilege to wake up every day and build something that people want 💜
The SSD in your home server is undoubtedly the most critical component. No matter what fails, it should never be your storage. Period.
That's why we work with the best of the best.
SSDs in the Umbrel Home are powered by Phison NVMe controller and SK Hynix NAND for maximum performance and endurance.
For the unaware, Phison's customers include Apple, Seagate, Crucial, etc, and SK Hynix is also the NAND supplier for Apple, Microsoft, Asus, Dell, etc.
That said, we still shouldn't rely on one SSD as the single point of failure. That's why backups are high up on our roadmap after umbrelOS 1.0.

In case you're wondering how much more powerful the new Umbrel Home is vs Pi 4, the difference is in orders of magnitude:
- 100% Bitcoin node sync: 6x faster (in just ~6.5 hours)
- File compression: 9.5x faster
- Plex video transcoding: 3.8x faster
- LlamaGPT: 5x faster
Here’s a demo of LlamaGPT interference and generation happening locally on both the devices:
The new, upgraded Umbrel Home is now powered by the Intel N100 chip, a faster 16GB RAM and a faster 2TB SSD.
Now available for just $399 / €369 / £319, and ~$399 globally. Shipping worldwide, starting now.
It's 5x faster than the Raspberry Pi 4 and 2x faster than the Pi 5. If you're already running a Pi-based Umbrel, migrating all your apps and data is one-click easy with our Migration Assistant feature. ✨
