I was relating to a co-worker about the struggle of being a software developer and the notion that no one knows (or cares) what it is I do. To many a computer is just a black box that does stuff. Not that I know much more, but I do a little. Contrast that with the people that came before us. They were so much more capable than people now. Heck, even a generation ago. My uncle rebuilt an old 1950s truck. he didn't know what the hell he was doing. He figured it out though. We're lesser people now, myself included. And it just breaks my heart.
