Unpopular opinion: The subset of HTML supported by Markdown can be written in plain HTML, remain just as readable by humans, but is way more compatible with everything else. Most uses of markdown are for enforcing a subset of HTML as input, which could be trivially achieved with an XML schema.

Building a static website from scratch b/c all CSS frameworks are bloatware on top of native display: flex support, and static website generators can be replaced by 40 lines of rust code if you already have a webserver and templating engine as dependencies.
