#HBD to Russell M. Nelson, the current president and prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who is turning 100. A particularly notable moment in Nelson’s legacy happened in 2018, when he insisted that church members not use the name Mormon or even ‘LDS’ to identify the church or themselves. The name Mormon comes from the title of the Book of Mormon – a text unique to the faith. Founder Joseph Smith believed he had been instructed by God to restore Jesus’ true church and insisted that in the book’s original language, the word Mormon meant “literally, ‘more good.’”
