Devil Went Down to Georgia inspired even more thoughts, and I wanted to talk about why Americans should be arrogant. View article →

Holy shit I love ‘Murica!

I'm going to be speaking at Rustikon, a Rust conference in Warsaw, Poland, next month. Any Nostr Rustaceans going to be attending?

Cut off everyone’s slush fund. I don’t care which party you’re hailing from.

New area of research: judicial review. Amazing how an entire power for the Supreme Court was invented out of nowhere... by the Supreme Court itself! Who gets to decide that it was allowed to do so? The Supreme Court, of course, they said so!
Oh, and we'll kinda add in all federal judges too, just for fun.
I reference Robert Barnes later in the thread, if you aren't familiar with him, he's a great source of information on a lot of topics, but especially legal analyses from an originalist/libertarian style position. (I think, I haven't heard him use either of those terms, but they _seem_ to fit.)

GM Nostr!
Today's the day I do one of my most hated bits of paperwork for the year.
Since I'm a US expat, once a year I need to file an FBAR to let the US government know about all my financial holdings. They already have all this information, I have to sign paperwork with every financial institution I sign up with allowing the US government access to this information.
This form isn't the worst thing in the world to file. It's just completely unnecessary. It's meant to try and trap people. On top of that, the form to fill this up is actively hostile to its user.
I already paid my taxes... many times, and to two different countries. To quote John Galt:
"Get the hell out of my way!"
I love Nostr, and the fact that it's actually true freedom of speech, unlike other social media.
Even with that framing: it's amazing to me how much has changed on other social media in the past 10 years. I remember the terror around expressing my opinions on economics on Twitter, with the ever-present threat of being Canceled.
The censors still have more power than they should, but their power base in substantially weakened. May it only continue.
GM Nostr! Hope much does the government cost us? Much more than most people think. View article →
I guess I’m still on some lists from when I lived in California. I decided to vote. If you want to know how people can always find “73% support” for whatever position they hold, it’s bullshit, loaded questions like this.

Convince me to be an anarchist
I'm not an anarchist, yet. I _am_ already bought in fully to massively limited government and hard currency separated from that government. But I've yet to wrap my head around how the core roles of government as defined in the US constitution (like national defense, judicial system, etc.) would work without any government at all.
I'm totally opened to being convinced, and would love to either hear from others or get recommendations on reading material on the subject. So far, when I've asked, I've been pointed to general Austrian economics writings, which are great, but haven't yet given me a vision for a fully anarchist world.
