¿Mini-Perestroika?
#Cuba announces a significant opening to investment from its citizens residing abroad, including those living in the United States.
The measure aims to attract foreign currency and contribute to the reactivation of the economy amid a deep crisis. Among the main aspects of this reform are:
- Investment in private businesses: Emigrants will be able to participate as partners or owners of private companies on the island, known as MSMEs.
- Participation in the banking system: The opening to foreign capital in the banking sector has been announced, which will allow emigrants to open foreign currency accounts in Cuban banks.
- Investment in large companies and infrastructure: The reform goes beyond small businesses and contemplates the possibility of investing in infrastructure projects and creating joint ventures in partnership with the State.
- Simplification of procedures: The requirement to submit feasibility studies is eliminated, which will be replaced by more agile business plans to accelerate project approvals.
- Accounts abroad: Companies with foreign or mixed capital will be able to continue operating with bank accounts outside the country, which will facilitate their international transactions.
