Running A Marathon In North Korea + Arrested In China With Johan Nylander
🎧 I had the opportunity to sit down with journalist and Amazon best-selling author Johan Nylander.
Johan shares with me why running is important to him, and how he ended up running marathons in North Korea and Mongolia.
He also opens up for the first time publicly about his experience getting arrested in Xinjiang, Western China, while reporting on the oppression that the Muslim population faces there.
This episode is a must-watch. We tackle some bigger questions about freedom, the role of journalism, technology, and why it is important to go and see the world with your own eyes.

✨ Can you pull the money lever just right to control inflation? Spotted at Bank of England exhibition on money and the future of money. If you think that's crazy then you should study Bitcoin.
🎧 Latest pod is out. I talk with Sovereign Origin ( @Sovereign Origin 🥕 ) about his concept FITS (Financially Independent, Time Sovereign) a new alternative to the traditional FIRE movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early).
While both approaches aim to escape the “rat race,” FITS redefines the pursuit of financial independence through the lens of Bitcoin, focusing on sovereignty over one’s time with a unique perspective towards wealth, work, and life.
We had a great talk about the FITS concept, exploring some of the technical aspects, as well as some of the challenges inherent in the traditional FIRE approach which is built on the premise of the ongoing growth of the stock market and ultimately is not truely independent because the state can always come and turn off or confiscate your retirement fund – Something they can’t do with Bitcoin.

Andrew M. Bailey @Andrew M. Bailey is a Professor and co-author of Resistance Money: A Philosophical case for Bitcoin.
We discuss the book’s approach to communicating the idea of Bitcoin from a global perspective, providing strong arguments for Bitcoin’s value as a net good for the world.
We also talk about the history of political philosophy and how ideas spread as well as the new interdisciplinary Bitcoin Research Institute at the University of Wyoming where Andrew will be taking on a role as Professor of Philosophy.
I am reading The Sovereign Individual again. Has anyone else been reading it? Some truth bombs that stand out:
1. Is anarchy the world order already? There is no global power, only competing states and interests and the logic of violence.
2. Politics is downstream of technology, mass democracy is a product of mass production, along with mass media
3. Voting is a proxy for military violence
4. What is it that makes people believe in the legitimacy of democratic institutions? No other organisation or business is run this way, when you understand the logic of violence in the industrial age it becomes clear.
🎧 Latest pod: Max Hillebrand ( @Max ) is a Bitcoin builder, educator, and privacy advocate.
Max has contributed to open-source Bitcoin projects including BISQ, JoinMarket, and Wasabi Wallet, while also talking about individual freedom and self-sovereignty.
We dive straight into the concept of The Second Realm, which is focussed on building parallel economic systems in which sovereign individuals are empowered to pursue life, liberty and happiness without the harassment of the State.
Along the way we discuss anarchy, agorism, praxeology, and natural law.
Max is a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed this conversation with him, I hope you do too.
I am looking forward to Saturday. See you all at Bitkiwi in Christchurch. The event runs 1 - 5pm & the talk panel is at 1:30pm. Learn about Bitcoin, buy a beer with sats, or just have a yarn. Free and open to all.
It seems we went from "new innovations in digital money are being tentatively explored by a small team..." to "TIME TO GET READY FOR THE CBDC NEW ZEALAND: ITS COMING" in a period of about 6 months.
It's not looking good for privacy and human rights. Interestingly it looks like they already have an internal project titled "Digital Cash Campaign" designed to push this narrative out there:
I have heard that the RBNZ's unelected oafdom are also beginning the rounds in the local media to plant the seeds for their new magic money.
🎧 The Economic Violence of the New Zealand State and the RBNZ with Ben Jarvie
Ben Jarvie is a writer and kiwi Bitcoiner working for Amber App, a Bitcoin-only exchange.
We talk about Ben’s recent travels to El Salvador and Madeira, and we reflect on the declining situation of my beloved home country, New Zealand, and in particular the economic violence that the State and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand continues to unleash upon the people through its egregious manipulation of the money.
But that said, we know that Bitcoin fixes this, and we are here to build bridges and meet people where they are at!
🎉 Queenstown as New Zealand's Gateway to the Bitcoin World?
Renowned for its breathtaking vistas of Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps, as well as its attraction as a luxury tourist destination, Queenstown could become a premier hub for Bitcoin innovation in New Zealand.
Alongside exotic locales like El Zonte in El Salvador and the lakeside city of Lugano in Switzerland, Queenstown has been establishing its own local Bitcoin economy of innovators, businesses, and initiatives. From burgeoning startup ventures to Bitcoin community events and the building of Bitcoin infrastructure, Queenstown could become a hub for this new monetary technology in New Zealand.

I talk with Christian Lewe from Blockstream Research. Christian is working on Simplicity, a more robust programming language designed as an alternative to Bitcoin Script.
To own Bitcoin is to be able to spend it, and the way we currently do this is with Bitcoin Script which has challenges and limitations that means it can be very unforgiving to work with, and it limits more complex transactions and arrangements because you cannot formally verify what will actually happen.
Simplicity seeks to fix this.
The project that has been in the works for over ten years and has been described by Adam Back as “the last soft fork”. There is some technical nuance to this statement, but as Christian shares, enabling simplicity could bypass a lot of the contentious soft fork discussions about things like covenants as this functionality is possible with Simplicity.
We talk about the proof of work and low time preference of Simplicity, as well as the plans to launch on the Liquid testnet and mainnet to validate the project through actual financial use before an eventual proposal to bring it into Bitcoin.

I talk with @gsovereignty, based in Hong Kong, going deep into questions about individual sovereignty and freedom. We also discuss the relationship with the legacy nation state and how Bitcoin and Nostr may interface with collectivist societies such as China. We talk about the Hong Kong protests, the dynamics of state and media, and Bitcoin’s eventual showdown with the Cantillon Pyramid.
We also talk about G’s work in Nostr, including running the @Nostrovia Podcast podcast, and building nostrocket – helping Bitcoiners organise projects in a way that is not beholden to the state.

🎧 Latest podcast is out: Understanding the Dasset Exchange Collapse from a Legal Perspective with James Swarbrick
We talk about his thoughts from a legal perspective about the recent collapse of the Dasset crypto exchange, self-custody, as well as discuss an article he wrote about how the hack of another exchange, Cryptopia, helped develop law in New Zealand.
