Oh I guess I didn't share my experience at the Bitcoin MENA conference.
All I have to say is that it sucked, like really bad. They had panels dedicated to treasury companies, strategic reserves, influencers (yuck), and stablecoins. Oh and Michael Saylor of course. It was just so boring and tiring and gay.
I mean there were a few interesting ones, but nothing I needed to see in person. I think there was one panel dedicated to something loosely related to bitcoin development.
Besides meeting Muslims (which was really the main motivation for going), I had a great time chatting with The Bitcoin Way folks. They help newbies with custody, utxo management, node set up, and even privacy, and I was surprised to learn that they even help users get on Linux and graphene OS. I really love their vibe and what they do, I might do an affiliate program with @BitcoinMajlis with them.
It's hard for me to get excited to go to another big bitcoin conference after this, but I'll probably get sucked into going again.

Interesting, and predictable, to see governments everywhere sprinting toward mandatory ID checks for age verification just for people to do anything online
We're watching the internet get fenced in platform by platform. I suspect this crackdown will end up accelerating Nostr adoption inshaAllah.
Get ready for the next wave!
Trying to revive the Bedouin archetype in cyberspace means rebuilding nomadic opacity inside an environment designed for total algorithmic legibility and surveillance. A lot harder than reviving Bedouin culture in the physical.

Finally got around to watching Frieren (the wife has been bothering me about it for months!) and the soundtrack is out of this world. Amazing anime so far.

They should just call it a euro stablecoin and they'd get a lot less opposition. Amateurs. View quoted note →
Somalis are saying that they're willing to accept a two state solution in Minnesota.

Another really great episode! This time with Harris Irfan. Amazing to see Iqbal Nasim do a whole series about Bitcoin from the Muslim perspective. He's already done three episodes that have all been enlightening. Brother is speedrunning the orange pill.

Both East and West are needed for Bitcoin to win.
I'll officially announce this in a few days inshaAllah, but I'll announce it here first since you nostr folks are special to me.

"I should credit you for doing us all a very important service by raising this issue. Nothing could have lit a bigger fire under those of us strongly believe in a citizens' right to use cryptography than your proposals to ban or regulate it. There are many of us out here who share this belief *and* have the technical skills to turn it into practice. And I promise you that we will fight for this belief to the bitter end, if necessary." [Phil Karn, 1993-03-23]
The phenomenon of devs (not just in Bitcoin) being so economically illiterate, like at a comically infantile level, needs to be studied.
They work with logic all the time, but it's like their brain suddenly short circuits when it's applied to human action. Very strange. View quoted note →

"A Cyber Islamicate built upon a system of relays and independent nodes of production with no centralised oversight will ensure it fulfills its purpose in protecting Quran and Sunnah from external opponents and internal tyrants." View article →
"Already today many records are kept of our financial dealings - each time we purchase an item over the phone using a credit card, this is recorded by the credit card company. In time, even more of this kind of information may be collected and possibly sold. One Cypherpunk vision includes the ability to engage in transactions anonymously, using "digital cash", which would not be traceable to the participants. Particularly for buying "soft" products, like music, video, and software (which all may be deliverable over the net eventually), it should be possible to engage in such transactions anonymously. So this is another area where anonymous mail is important." [Hal Finney, 1993-02-23] View quoted note →
