It promotes egoism on a grand scale and dents the virtues. It facilitates excesses of all sorts, because it destroys the necessity to balance all aspects of human existence. When applied massively and over several generations, it is likely to create armies of narcissistic and unhinged solitaries who are unable to lead their lives without support. In short, state-sponsored individualism is an all-out program of destruction. It not only afflicts the social dimension of human existence, but also cripples the individual human soul."
