We share daily father-son dialogues explaining Bitcoin on Twitter and here on nostr. On Mondays, we send out a recap newsletter with the coolest things Dad has learned during the past week. If you are new to Bitcoin, this will help you get started. If you are already on your journey, this will help you stay up to date, keep away from scams, and avoid the common pitfalls. Our DM is open for your Bitcoin related questions.
image Son: Dad, did you get your coins off exchange? Dad?! This is a friendly reminder to get your coins off exchange. It shouldn't be ignored! Dad: Son, thank you for your message. I am thinking of taking my bitcoin off the exchanges when the stack will start to look big enough. Son: Download a phone wallet like Muun or BlueWallet. Learn to back it up and learn how to restore it using your recovery seed words. Start learning self-custody with small amounts today. It's a process, and you need to practice it. Dad: All right, I will take a look at it. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, tell me something interesting about "Bitcoin Transactions". Son: Hi Dad, Ok. A "Bitcoin Transactions" can consist of many inputs and many outputs. The inputs are outputs of previous transactions which you want to spend, and each output has values assigned to an address. In general, a transaction is expected to have 2 outputs, the "destination address" and the "change address". Dad: So, the remainder of the funds are moving on chain as well? Son: Yes, you always have to move the whole unspent transaction output, also known as "UTXO" or coin. #Bitcoin
image Son: Dad, Bitcoin does not over-promise nor under-deliver. Bitcoin simply does its thing. Everyone knows the rules, and you must follow them if you want to use Bitcoin. Dad: Son, and you can count on these rules! This is a wonderful and powerful thing. Son: Bitcoin is "Rules without Rulers". #Bitcoin
image Son: Dad, when it comes to internet money, you should never use, generate or input private keys online. Dad: Son, you have already mentioned that. #Bitcoin
image Son: Dad, get quality over quantity bitcoin. Dad: Son, what do you mean? Son: Bitcoin with your identity or bank account is a liability. Dad: Son, how so? Son: These funds are directly linked to your personal information. Privacy gone. It's better to keep your Bitcoin transactions private and separate from your personal information. If your identity or bank account information is compromised, it can make you a target for hackers or even put your financial security at risk. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, what does SHA256 hashing do? Son: Hi Dad, Let's assume a want to hash this message. The hash would be 64 characters long, always, no matter how long the message is. The hash is always the same if I hash the same message, and there is no way to get back to the original message based on the hash. Dad: So, hashing is a one-way transformation of information and the information is not the information itself. The information for me and others is that the given information is "true". Son: Yes, Dad, you can understand it that way. #Bitcoin
image Son: Dad, Bitcoin scarcity is intensifying as soaring demand triggers an imminent explosion. Dad: Son, so does this mean that a price explosion is imminent? Son: The question is not if, but when. #Bitcoin
image Son: Daily reminder: Dad, no one is coming to secure your wallet's recovery seed words for you. ;-) Dad: Son, thank you for helping me to help myself. With a Cryptosteel, it was done in no time. Thank you for the recommendation and the "TEACH_ME_BITCOIN_SON_CS10 " coupon code. Son: You're welcome, Dad. Glad you did it. Have you secured the passphrase too? Dad: Yes, I did. Got a "Capsule Duo". #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, buying things one cannot afford is the height of unreasonableness. Son: Yes, Dad. Fiat did this. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, do you have a good Bitcoin investment strategy you would like to share? Son: Hi Dad, Sure. Don't trade, don't sell – that's the strategy. Holding bitcoin is savings, not investing. People with a high time preference will invest their fiat money seeking for fiat gains. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, cam yuu hlp be to make a bitcorn paymentt? Son: Dad, what's wrong? Are you drunk?! Dad: Alk goood. coudl be, .. maybe jhst a little too muvh of that finee botttle, .. Son: 4 things not to operate intoxicated: 1. Firearms 2. Heavy machinery 3. Vehicles 4. Bitcoin That's my message for today, Dad. Talk tomorrow. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, what are "sats"? Son: Hi Dad, Sats are like bitcoin, just smaller. Dad: Smaller? Son: Yeah, a smaller denomination. There are 100,000,000 sats in every bitcoin. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, what is a "Bitcoin block" exactly? Son: Hi Dad, Think of it as a record of ownership at a certain point in time. The "point in time" is measured as "block height", which is the number of blocks in the chain between a given block and the very first block in the blockchain. Dad: So the blockchain can also be used to measure time? Son: Yes, exactly, that's why Satoshi also called the blockchain a "timechain". #Bitcoin
image Son: Dad, there is no such thing as overproduction in Bitcoin. Bitcoin always paces itself. Everything works as designed and everything is in perfect order every 10 minutes on average. Dad: Son, it seems to me that Bitcoin runs as accurately and precisely as a Swiss watch. Son: Bitcoin is indeed a great timekeeper. #Bitcoin
image Son: Dad, I'm grateful that you taught me this: "Good habits and simple rules, if applied, can positively change your whole life." Dad: Son, how did you put that to use? Son: Numerous ways, but one of them is stacking sats, no matter what happens. Dad: Son, that seems to have paid off. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, wait until the people who just want to be left alone get involved. Son: Hi Dad, What do you mean? #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, the market capitalization of gold is huge. Son: Hi Dad, Yes, but Bitcoin will surpass the market cap of gold and eat all its monetary value very soon. Dad: Maybe. But it will take a generation or two before Bitcoin will make gold irrelevant. Son: A generation or two of new Bitcoiners, yes. What if Bitcoin will make gold irrelevant within 5 years or so??? #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, what are "HD Bitcoin Wallets"? Son: Dad, by definition, wallets are private key and public key management systems. In the beginning, every key pair used had to be backed up individually. That's why many have reused addresses, which is bad for privacy, as you know. BIP-32 made Bitcoin better and introduced "HD wallets", which stands for "Hierarchical Deterministic", and not for "High Definition". With this BIP, it's possible to generate multiple addresses (public/private key pairs) derived from a single source of random data (=entropy). Dad: Why was this introduced in the first place? Son: It makes backing up the random bits of data much easier and safer, especially if combined with BIP-39, which introduced the mnemonic seed words, which is just entropy in a human-readable form. #Bitcoin
image Dad: Son, on a scale from 1 to 100,000,000 how satisfied is a bitcoin? Son: Hilarious, Dad. #Bitcoin
