As a software architect I have been hearing for years that the cloud allows always up or close to it sites and services. Further that it allows unlimited horizontal scaling. However even YouTube, with free except internal charges Google Cloud, can't manage to stay available for nearly a million users today. So what is the real story. And when a cloud provider like AWS goes down it can take down everything running on it.
That horizontal scaling? Dunno. Most SaaS software including that from AWS directly throttles the hell out of users with no smooth handling of greater demand.
