Borrowing you friends family for photo shoots is kinda weird and shocking the first time you read about it, but then you realize politicians probably do this kind of thing constantly.

Does anyone know what happened to the Babylon Bee? Maybe it’s a temporary phase over election season but they almost completely stopped being funny. Everything is either “Kamala Harris is awful” or “Dems are trying to kill Trump” and most of them time they don’t even have a joke to go along with it.
And there at last is the reason everyone is leaving OpenAI. Sam is finally making his power grab.

I posted this note to OpenAI.

This was a very difficult decision as I have has such an incredible...
When did Mark Zuckerberg become kind of cool?
He went from the Social Network jerk who just wants your data to a competent martial artist who has interesting thoughts and still kind of wants your data.
OpenAI shedding their top people quickly. Ilya, Andrej, Jan, Greg, John, Peter, and now Mira are all out and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. That’s the heads of their research and safety teams and all the top executives.

I shared the following note with the OpenAI team today.
This is actually an insane improvement. Why is Meta releasing a multi-modal model that crushes similar models from OpenAI and Anthropic and they’re only bumping the version as a minor release?

Llama 3.2: Revolutionizing edge AI and vision with open, customizable models
Today, we’re releasing Llama 3.2, which includes small and medium-sized vision LLMs, and lightweight, text-only models that fit onto edge an...
No way, now they can both hang themselves at the same time with the cameras off.

Wait a few weeks and Trump will probably claim this during a debate.

God damn AI is only getting better. I could totally fool my grandparents with this.
Spam relies on two things, large reach and cheap cost per spam. The chance that any one person will click the link or fall for the scam is high incredibly low, so you need scale to get any significant reach.
To combat spam you need to knock out one or both of those requirements. You either need to limit the reach of spam or raise the cost per message. Both have trade offs. On a social network like Nostr, it’s difficult to easily identify and mute spam because there is so little metadata about each pub key to rely on with the focus on privacy. Raising the cost per note doesn’t require any information or work for relays, but can be handled by sending paying a relay or person per note or requiring proof of work to require burning electricity per note.
With the rise of really good transcription models, TTS that’s actually enjoyable to listen to, and LLMs that can carry a conversation and understand complex commands, why haven’t we seen an explosion of really good voice interfaces?
It seems obvious to me but I’ve only seen Apple making a serious attempt with the latest Siri update. There are so many times that I’m doing something with my hands, driving, etc. and wish I could give commands to my RSS reader or just chat with an LLM that has the Arxiv and Wikipedia connected with RAG.
Keep Nostr wyrd.
I love reading the original Brothers Grimm stories. They’re incredibly, nasty, brutish, and short. They paint a picture of a Hobbesian world where stories fairytales don’t always have fairytale endings, the bad guys sometimes win, and the story doesn’t have to have a point or pithy moral truth.
They break your brain a little because you unconsciously search every fairytale for some meaning or moral. Every time a hero gets three wishes you expect all three will be used and the third will probably have a twist. If a gun is introduced in the first act you expect it to be fired at some point.
The old fairytales don’t do this though. Sometimes there’s no meaning, they only use one or two wishes because that’s all the story required, and someone just gave them a sick sword that has no purpose.

The Three Mile Island plant could reopen soon! Microsoft is following Amazon’s lead and is running their own nuclear power plant. Yet another win for nuclear power.
Interesting that when private money is on the line companies are opting for nuclear reactors rather than solar or wind 🤔.
