Betting on your beliefs is a great way to see how well calibrated to reality you are and keep a record of your beliefs. It's easy to forget all the mistakes you've made, but bets help you remember those mistakes and learn from them. It doesn't even have to be real money, you could also use Manifold or Metaculus to accomplish the same end.

My one lesson from the past couple of days has been don’t fuck with Israel. My god they are stunningly effective. The US spent decades failing to kill Castro by make exploding seashells on the beach but Israel has been able to destroy Hezbollah and throw them into pandemonium.

It’s crazy to see how much my goalposts have changed for LLMs. I remember being blown away that GPT-3 could sensibly continue text while using context clues from MULTIPLE SENTENCES AGO. Now I’m annoyed when the 1000 lines of syntactically correct code Claude 3.5 Sonnet generates to satisfy my vague question contains a bug.
