@Phi come to my annual summer holiday in Missouri. Getting my barn organized and moving forward deep personal innovation. Last year, left all google accounts and took deep cuts out of Apple hardware with Phi Daisy project @phi Not sure yet what I will get done, but will keep chipping away towards total self-control and freedom hardware. Helping my friend get the same dell latitude 7480 running with debian that I am using, and hit the web browser barrier and asked that question of "Which browser?" I found one solution I really like:

Philosophy is rely totally on webkit upstream and have NO UI, which means no weird browser UI creep. So, I will parallel ungoogled chromium to try to stay with the mainstream webkit + tabs, but move towards #notabs + webkit for my portable computer setup. As for the state of web browsers, I been thru this and the teams, deeply and personally in SF and Asia, so my words are short, and behind them are years of work. The issue with Firefox-backed browsers is that Mozilla's mass-market mobile strategy FAILED. Therefore, they did not get the performance enhancements that Safari does with software functions pushed into Apple's chips. So any tech they have that is independent from upstream Safari-tech, is not competitive. WOW, look at where FirefoxOS ended up: -

(one could followup with those low budget hardware makers using this to understand why Firefox tech is most energy efficient) Safari is the fastest browser because Apple pays the cost to be the boss with their own chips. Therefore, Webkit derivative tech closest to Apple is current fastest for a reason. The state of browsers is mostly set at present, but of course, it could be disrupted with a new path in hardware, like glasses, PoS terminals, etc. And, that would take millions of dollars to do paired with a serious hardware path including sales & marketing.
