So. I tried MG ZS. It's small, I'd say city SUV.
Conclusion in one sentence? European automakers are already fucked - China will trample them to dust.
Longer version:
MG (not only) is to me, what brands like Škoda, Seat or Opel, Ford should look like.
Relatively simple, unobtrusive, decent and cheap car.* Good cost / benefit.
*All this relative to others, generally of course all cars are now expensive shit because of state regulation, full of equipment customers don't want and expensive technology which is pretending to be green.
But back to the car in question.
First time I sit in a it and... And nothing, I don't need to study manual. I can drive immediately. Sure there are not many buttons but screen UI is fine, virtual buttons big enough to work while driving.
When there's is button it makes what I expect it to do.
There are few neat features like double front and back cameras (one standard and one wide lens), two "favorite" buttons on wheel where you can put function of your desire.
The seats are small, but comfortable. Enough space for four adults inside.
And most surprisingly - the ride is absolutely ok.
It's hybrid (1,5 l petrol engine and some electric engine, around 200 hp in total I believe) but it works well, no delays, no issues when starting from lights, I don't know there is transmission basically and I realize when engine is running only looking at the dashboard (looking at you - ten times more expensive Range Rover, which is separate story for next time).
The mandatory EU annoying systems are of course there but they are not THAT annoying as in other cars (looking at Škoda or Peugeot for example).
Sure the car is lot perfect by any means. It's basically cheap, simple car. But unlike the others I have a feeling they were thinking about where to save and where not.
Sure all inside glove box, trunk etc looks and feels cheap. But wheel, drive stick and everything you touch feels good. (Exactly opposite as in Škoda for example, where inexplicably the nice materials where in place you can't reach and cheap plastic was on handles and everything you touch all the time).
I almost bumped it first time I was parking before I realized the car has front camera but not a front parking sensors 😅.
Generally I'm really sad. Again and again this shows how world around would be nicer without state regulations trying to make everything better for our own good...
