Cashu-TS v2.5 released Hey everyone! We just pushed a new version of Cashu-TS through the gates! The most notable feature included is NUT-21/22 Blinded Authentication. Other than that the release includes a great deal of fixes and DX improvements. Sneak preview: clipstr - A clipboard manager that lives on nostr! I recently started transitioning from my Macbook to a Linux machine and the only thing I miss is a synchronised clipboard between my devices. This made working on multiple workstations and with my phone a breez! Because I missed this so much I started having a clipboard text file that I synced between my devices using SyncThing, but it was not the real deal. Then I realised that I already work with the perfect syncing layer every single day... nostr! clipstr uses nostr events to your clipboard registry. It can set or get entries and print them to stdout, meaning you can easily pipe them into your OS' native clipboard when desired. Because it is build on nostr, it is easy to add GUI clients or access the registry through a browser. I did not get to polish and release it. But I wanted to share a demo regardless. Wdyt?

Cashu 402

Bitcoin changed my life

Coinbase jumped on the 402 bandwagon... yay! When I talk to people about Cashu they usually ask me: "Why do we need Cashu? We got Bitcoin and Lightning". I used to tell them that Cashu offers a great alternative to custodial Lightning, but with better privacy. While this remains true, my answer today is that Cashu enables new use cases (or simplifies them drastically) where Lightning and Bitcoin struggle. One example are Zaps. NIP-61 Zaps offer a very similar experience and value proposition as NIP-57 Zaps do, but require only a fraction of the implementation overhead. The second example (and inspiration for this post) is HTTP 402. With Cashu, we can streamline payments for requested ressources into a single request. Because Cashu is a bearer asset the whole flow is pretty stateless. It is stupid simple to implement this. While it is definitely possible to make 402 work with other "assets", using Bitcoin / Cashu makes it a breez. This is my favourite thing about Cashu.
