Bitcoin is like the Internet in the 90s When the Internet was born, many saw it as an academic experiment. Sending an email was slow, inefficient, and limited to plain text. But that apparent simplicity hid something much bigger: a robust, open protocol on which anything could be built. Over time, new layers arrived. HTTP enabled the web. Suddenly, browsing pages became accessible to millions. Later, other protocols like UDP made the unthinkable possible at the time: video streaming, real-time calls, online gaming… things even the pioneers couldn’t have imagined when they sent that first email. Bitcoin is following the same path. Today, many criticize it for being slow or expensive for micropayments. But that’s like judging the Internet by how email worked at the beginning. Bitcoin isn’t finished—it’s just getting started. Lightning Network, for example, is like the UDP of money: it enables instant payments without congesting the base layer. And not just payments—simple smart contracts, closed economies, microincentives, entirely new business models. And that’s just one of the layers. Solutions like RGB are being developed to issue tokens on Bitcoin; Fedimint combines privacy with community custody; Nostr uses Lightning payments to moderate social networks without censorship. Just like HTTP and UDP paved the way for YouTube, Zoom, Twitter, or Amazon, Bitcoin and its layers are laying the foundation for new financial, social, and identity services that don’t rely on intermediaries. The question isn’t what #Bitcoin can do today, but what it will enable tomorrow. First came the protocol. Next comes the revolution.

How long has money existed? When people are asked how long money has been around, most respond with something like 400 years, maybe 1,000 or 2,000 at most. But the truth is, we have no idea when it was invented—because we’ve never found a civilization that didn’t use it. Which leads us to one clear conclusion: money is as old as civilization itself. Take writing, for example. The earliest forms we know—like hieroglyphs or cuneiform—weren’t about religion or philosophy. They were about money. They were accounting books, records of debts, payments, exchanges. The first words ever written by humans were numbers and names, organizing who owed what to whom. Money isn’t just as old as writing—it’s what motivated its invention. And if we go even further back, we find traces of money in the Stone Age. Shells, feathers, rare stones. Objects used as a medium of exchange. We don’t know if money predates the wheel, but we do know that wheels were also used as money. Anything scarce, portable, and recognizable could serve that role. Even primates can learn to use money. There are studies where they’re taught to trade objects for food, and once they grasp the logic, they begin adapting to the new system. What matters is not the object itself, but what it represents. Money has no value by itself. It’s a language. A tool to communicate value. To coordinate efforts, establish relationships, build social networks. And as a language, it’s a fundamental technology. Probably as ancient as language itself. #Bitcoin isn’t just a new currency. It’s a new form of money. Software development has allowed us to create a product that meets the essential characteristics of money. ¿Desde hace cuanto existe el dinero? Cuando se le pregunta a la gente cuánto tiempo lleva existiendo el dinero, la mayoría responde cosas como 400 años, 1000, 2000 como mucho. Todo lo que era escaso, transportable y reconocible podía cumplir ese rol. Incluso los primates pueden aprender a usar dinero. Hay estudios donde se les enseña a intercambiar objetos por comida, y en cuanto entienden la lógica, empiezan a adaptarse al nuevo sistema. Lo importante no es el objeto en sí. Es lo que representa. El dinero no tiene valor por sí mismo. Es un lenguaje. Una herramienta para comunicar valor. Para coordinar esfuerzos, establecer relaciones, construir redes sociales. Durante años se intentó crear dinero digital. Pero todos los proyectos fracasaban en lo mismo: necesitaban confiar en una autoridad. No había escasez digital verificable. Y sin escasez, no hay valor. Bitcoin resolvió el problema desde la raíz. No fue una mejora. Fue un nuevo comienzo. Por primera vez, era posible tener dinero digital sin intermediarios, sin censura y sin riesgo de inflación arbitraria. El suministro está limitado a 21 millones. Las reglas no pueden cambiarse sin consenso global. Cualquiera, desde cualquier parte del mundo, puede verificarlo. Es como si alguien hubiera descubierto el fuego. Y una vez descubierto, todo lo demás; cocinar, calentar, fundir, se construye sobre ese hallazgo. Bitcoin es ese fuego. Un nuevo paradigma que permite crean una infraestructura económica en internet sin control central acercando a los usuarios productos tan fundamentales como el dinero tan solo con una conexión a internet. Las demás criptomonedas se basan en este nuevo paradigma pero con intenciones empresariales. Algunas con propuestas técnicas legítimas, otras meramente especulativas. Ethereum, Solana, Monero… aportan contratos, velocidad, privacidad. Pero todo eso es de 1 a n. Variaciones sobre lo que Bitcoin ya hizo posible. Y aquí entra una idea clave: Una vez descubierto algo tan fundamental, las mejoras deben construirse dentro de sus capas. Porque lo barato siempre tendrá competencia. Pero lo estructural, lo escaso, lo que redefine los límites… solo se inventa una vez. Ahora el reto no es reinventar Bitcoin, sino comprenderlo, protegerlo y construir sobre él.
