Installation finished
felt great
restarted in LXDE changed the resolution - it was not accepted, I log out
logged in, screen was completely unuseable (there was a garbled pixel bar at the top)
opened the text console (ctrl-alt-f2) used sudo pacman -S xfce-session
rebooted
and it is just a black screen now
took me about 10 mn
will need to reinstall
