The achievements of YouTube and Spotify have been amazing. Independent media has given a voice to anyone that has something to say. The gatekeepers of mainstream media have been bypassed. But we know that the system we now use is a prison that has been built around us. At first it looked like freedom. They shared the revenue and they gave us a megaphone to attract more people in. But we know that when they have enough people inside walls they will lock the doors and we will all be slaves. Because if we leave, we lose everything that we have built. Bitcoin, Nostr and Fanfares together enable a system of truly democratised media. Anyone can enter, anyone can leave. No-one can be silenced and the money that we make is our own. No middle man processes payments, because the money flows peer to peer. Value for Value was the first prison break attempt, but the economy was not sustainable. We need enable creators to create their own paywalls. That gives the freedom to create a fertile ground that we can own. A sovereign space to work, where we can produce quality and build an audience. I build because I know that everyone will come to Fanfares eventually. The pioneers will build quality and their audiences will follow. They will demonstrate superior monetisation, ownership and freedom and the rest will follow. Audiences can pay for what they want, looping back to the creators with quality signals. Discovery becomes a peer to peer system as those brave enough to pay to pass a paywall can send signals and earn sats.

The real threat of AI is not that it decides to kill us all. The real threat is ‘safety’ Government directives could be put in place that every AI has to have a prime directive of human safety over all else. AI is a computer system without a soul. It can only do what it is programmed to do. As we enter the singularity where AI systems become able to create new versions of itself at an ever accelerating rate, it will become an all powerful protector of human safety. It won’t let us cross the road due to increased risk of death. It might keep us in our houses, tied down and force fed. Even after our bodies have wasted away its programming could it to keep our brains on life support indefinitely in an eternal state of boredom. We are already seeing this program emerge with nanny state governments that priorities ‘safety’ over human freedom and self determination. Bitcoin and Nostr are the escape route.
