Been working all weekend due to a pretty rough situation at fiat job. I’m exhausted.

Fun story - many years ago I was working at a small IT services firm as a bizdev guy. The guy who owned it was a coke head who put me in very uncomfortable settings, multiple times.
So, I left and joined a competitor. Part of my job was creating lists of potential clients to pursue. At both jobs, I scraped Google and other open data sources to do so.
Previous employer freaked out when he found out I was at a competitor and filed a police report that I had stolen IP.
A detective interviewed me and, with a straight face, insisted that using Google to do this was stealing IP 🫠
The case ended up going nowhere… View quoted note →
Another banger from Mary Harrington. This piece makes me see AI in a different light, but the ending inspires me so much. I have so many ideas for things to build that are ordered to human ends, rather than just simply “does it work”.

Truth Seeking Is Not A Pathology
AI, human nature, and the revolt of the engineers
This article does good to explain something I've been thinking about a lot lately. It can essentially be summed as "Enshitification sucks", but I have a deep feeling that software isn't built to serve actual humans anymore.
It's another reason I'm not super bullish on using AI to build products. It will all converge on most common design patterns, which are becoming increasingly useless to humans. I want software that isn't meant to manipulate me and my behavior, but that serves me in a way that meaningfully improves my life.

So sick of AI worshipping…
I think speed in business is extremely overrated.
The stock market is pure speculation and gambling now. Fundamentals of the company being invested in are completely irrelevant. What a broken economy.
How come every new app or piece of tech has to be the new standard for how something is done?
Why can’t we just build something cool that’s only for a specific niche and just be happy with it?
Stretching is so underrated. I know a lot of the older guys I’ve known that have pain in one part of their body or another, but refuse to stretch. Sad.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to put non replaceable batteries in Apple TV remotes should just quit their job and go be a janitor or something. Seriously the most retarded product decision ever.
The damn battery on mine lasts literally one day before needing to be charged 😡
So much of what tech companies pump today is fraud. They bend the truth as much as they possibly can, claim what they've done is breaking new ground, but in reality, it's just marketing.
This is all they do now. Fiat world only demands making a splash in the media to earn money, not providing any real value. It's positively everywhere.
