A different approach, because there's rarely "the" way, just "another" way:
- Who's crying? Identify the victim.
- Treat the wound, ID the perp
- "WTF were you thinking?" to the perp to get the debriefing process started
- Make the perp help treat the wound
- Explain the mistake, identify what went wrong, discuss prevention
- Consequences for the perp
- Go to bed.
