Being in the NICU has really reaffirmed my views that cyberpunk and solarpunk cultures aren't counter narratives, they're complementary. Sure having a home birth all natural and chill was our plan, but twins makes that harder, and premie twins makes that impossible, so we have the cyberpunk external womb as a backup. The same thing applies on our farm, i make my living coding in the basement, but i truly live when I'm out moving animals and building new systems. We are in a transitional phase in the world, moving from the culture created by the industrial revolution forward is only supported by the cypherpunk movement, otherwise we risk going backwards into feudalism. Progress is dependant on backups, politically this is seen as progressives and conservatives fighting but they need each other. Conservatives represent a saved game checkpoint, and progressives will always push the boundaries forward until either that thread snaps back to the prior checkpoint or they convince the conservatives that they should create a new save there. This is easily demonstrated by network based communication, even the most luddite prepper has a radio in their pack. Creating more cyberpunk technology will force the solarpunk side to respond in kind other, for example, self driving tractors for massive row crops vs regenerative animal agriculture.
