This was an interesting study that developed an AI prediction model to predict which patients will have mental health deterioration or agitation events to help protect providers and patients. Study: Over the past decade, general emergency department visits for mental health conditions increased by 53%, while overall visits increased by only 8.6%. Agitation, defined as excessive psychomotor activity leading to aggressive and violent behavior, is a frequent feature of mental health–related emergency visits. This study using a cross-sectional cohort of ED visits across 9 hospitals, developed a prediction model including factors for detecting risk of agitation that demonstrated high accuracy and applicability across diverse patient populations.
